  i dont know if you already got replies, but there are different methods.  one is the ebook some people have, where the author says to use underwear, rush them to the potty if they start to go in the undies, and just constantly change their undies if they get wet.  (thus the reason you need so many pairs!)

   we have used this method (link) because we like diaper-free time and so it worked for us.  the link describes it well enough, and it has worked well.  but we did do what they say at the beginning - talked/read/watched dvd's about kids using the potty for a couple of months before starting it.  so she was really ready.
