I don't think I ever thought about how they came out, but I gave some serious thought as to how they got in there. At about 6 or 7 I thought it happened by mom and dad touching belly buttons. I knew belly buttons had something to do with babies, but I wasn't sure what. I was so convinced of this that apparently I told all of my friends at school that this was how it worked.
My nephew, on the other hand, couldn't have cared less as to how they got in there, but was really concerned with how they got out. He was 4 when my sister was pregnant with her second, and one day he said "Mom, I don't know how that baby is going to fit out of your mouth." It was adorable. He associated things in your tummy that needed to get out with throwing up, which I thought was actually pretty smart.
So, what did you think when you were young? Or what does your child think about the whole thing?
Re: Where did you think babies came from when you were a kid?
I don't remember what I used to think. My mom told me about sex very early on. She never sugar-coated it, she would bring out the medical book and show diagrams.
Jakob hasn't been much interested. He was 6 when I was pregnant with Layna and never asked how the baby got in my tummy. He asked how it would come out and I told him through the girl parts. That was explanation enough for him.
I am 4 and 6 years older than my siblings, so obviously I knew where babies grew. I'm pretty sure my Mom also explained about penises and vaginas.
The one funny thing I do remember was when I was about 7 or 8, my friend Amy told me that anything shaped like a penis that went in your vagina would get your pregnant. Like .... your finger. Going to the restroom and trying to wipe afterwords was a horrifying experience for a while, LOL! Finally my Mom asked me why I was being so .... careful with my hands down there, and I confessed I thought if my finger went anywhere near my vagina that I'd have a baby. Hahahaha.

Hahahaha! I bet your parents were perplexed as to why you suddenly avoided crackers!
When I was very young I thought you just became pregnant out of nowhere and you had no say in when it happened whatsoever. Then, when you had the baby, they cut you open in the small of your back and took the baby out from there. I have no idea where I got that from. I finally asked my mother at the age of 8, and she took me to the library, checked out a book (geared towards kids) about where babies came from, and we read it together. I was relieved to find out you had to actually have sex in order to get pregnant, and that there would be no cutting open of my back when I did finally have a baby.
