Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

molar pregnancy

So i posted earlier this month about losing my pregnancy. I had a d&c done last wednesday and pathology report came back yesterday which determined a partial molar pregnancy. I had my first dr appt after this finding today which we discussed what steps we need to take next. Everything about this is very scarey and upsetting. Have to monitor my hcg levels every week until they go down to 0 then once they hit 0 then have to monitor me monthly for 6 mths to a year. If they rise then theyll refer me to an oncologist bc it can turn into a coriocarsinoma which is cancer. did a chest xray today (dont know results yet) bc i guess it could spread to my lungs, brain, and or liver. i CANT get pregnant for year bc it could harm me seriously. Dr put me on birth control and were supposed to use condoms. We cant get pregnant for a year from when my hcg levels hit 0. I got results of my hcg levels today and were 865.9 and wed before my d&c they were 57,000. So this is a good thing theyre dropping. Sorry if this is all jibberish, just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this or if anyone has any insight. Thanks in advance!

Re: molar pregnancy

  • I'm so sorry for your loss and that you have to go through such a scarey process afterwards. I know it would be so much easier to be told you can TTC right away, but I am glad that you are making your health your priority. I hope this all gets easier for you. T&P and (((HUGS)))

  • Sorry for your loss. I also had a partial molar. My D&C was on 9/10, my hcg levels were down to 7 last week. (they were 990 one week post D&C). My OB said my levels will also be monitored weekly until they are at 0 and then monthly for six months. I was told we could TTC after that six month period.

It is definitely devastating to lose your baby and then have a diagnosis that means you have to wait a long time to TTC again and have the possibility of cancer. From what my Dr. said and information I've researched we have a lower risk of cancer by having a partial molar pregnancy.  A complete molar has a higher risk. While I know the risk is low it is someone that frequently is in my thoughts and not something I ever thought I'd have to worry about.

I just started bc pills this week - I thought I was done with those stupid things!

  • Thank you mgduke. This is going to be a long year but i know with the support of hubby , family and God we will get through this trying time. I'm very sorry for your loss as well. I hope things get better for you and you get that precious baby you deserve!
  • Kaitlyn i know what you mean about thinking being done with the stupid bc pills! I wonder if my dr will be lenient on letting me conceive after 6 months???? i doubt it though. Thats just my luck. Its refreshing in an odd way to know that someone on this board is familiar with a molar pregnancy...please dont take that the wrong way! I wish  you the best of luck with moving on past this bump in the road. So far this has been very very hard to deal with and a big heart break. I hope one day, hopefully sooner than later, that this will get easier. Please message if youd like to share or talk about  this uncommon similarity that we share : )
  • I was also diagnosed with a partial molar pregnancy 2 weeks ago and feel your pain. It seems to be harder with this as most people have never even heard of it. My doctor did not give me a lot of information, which panicked me after I started to research on the internet. I ended up making an appt with another doctor for a second opinion/follow up as mine really did not mention ANY follow up after my hcg dropped. I have been doing weekly blood draws and hope to be down to "zero" levels in the next couple weeks. So sorry for your loss and you are in my thoughts. It has been helpful to me to find others that understand this, so boards like this have been comforting.
  • I agree that it's nice to have others to share our experiences with. I certainly wouldn't want anyone else to have to through a m/c or molar pregnancy, but it's comforting to not feel alone.

  • I would love to keep in touch with you ladies. It is sometimes difficult to talk to people about this when they have no idea what it even is.
  • I went through this as well.  We lost twins as only one of them was a partial molar but neither baby survived.  If your hcg levels drop quickly and all follow ups are good for 6 months I would revisit the length of wait with your doctor at that time.  That is what I did.  Also, when you do have a baby make SURE that pathology is done and that whatever doctor is there knows about this.  I am so sorry let me know if you have any specific questions. :)
