Cloth Diapering

Travel/Vacation: Cloth or Disposable?

We are going away for a period of 6 weeks and I can't decide if we want to continue using cloth or just use disposable. We have access to a washing machine, but I'm more worried about the amount of room they will take up in our suitcase.

What would you do?

If you had to use disposable, which brand do you recommend?

TIA!

Re: Travel/Vacation: Cloth or Disposable?

  • Are you driving or flying? I would probably do it either way because it is such a long trip. If it was shorter I might just deal with sposies.

I've heard good things about a lot of the store brands like Target's Up&Up.

We are flying -- Australia to America. So we have a limited amount of room...

  • Hmm, that is a long trip! You could probably spacebag them and get them to fit into your luggage. I think buying disposables and packing those would take up more space than CDs in spacebags. (I looove spacebags by the way) ;-)

  • I would pack CDs.  We are flying from Austin to LA for a week for Christmas, and we will be washing our CDs with my mom's washer.  CDs for two days (we plan to wash every other day) shouldn't take up too much space in your baggage if packed nicely.  I like the space bags idea -- haven't tried it but want to.  Also, I think you entitled to check in larger baggage for international flights.
  • We drove so we had more room, but even if we flew I would do cloth. It really wasn't a hassle at all, I did them twice while we were away for 8 days. I would get those space saver bags and use them.
  • Because you're flying that far, I would buy a pack of disposables for the trip and buy more here.

Even with the space saver bags, I wouldn't want to waste room in my luggage for diapers.  And I wouldn't want to worry about doing the laundry while on vacation!

When we do have to use disposables, we use the Target brand.  They are inexpensive and work just as well as huggies or pampers for us.
