Have you ever read the book The Red Tent?  I thought of it immediately when I read your period party post.  That book is all about celebrating your womanhood and I think you would like it if you have never read it. 

While I don't plan on giving DD a "period party" I totally understand why it is celebrated by many people and did not understand why some people were freaking out in their posts.  Celebrate our diversity ladies!! :)

    I haven't read it.  I read the Mothering magazine article a couple months ago about the topic.  Thanks.  I decided to just leave that post alone because so many people were getting kinda ugly about it.

    Sausagegate all over again! :)

    The book is set in biblical times, but it isn't really religious.  It follows a girl growing up in a large family and her moving into womanhood and then motherhood.  It also really makes you appreciate our modern society when it comes to women's issues.  Check it out sometime if you get a chance.

    That looks pretty interesting actually!  Right now I'm reading A Lion Among Men.  I will see if my library has a copy of this.  I get about an hour of book time in each day.  We both sit in her room, I read in the glider and she plays while listening to music Big Smile

    What is A Lion Among Men about?  Do you like the book so far?  I'm always looking for good books to read.  I like that you have quiet time with O each day.  Since I work during the day, we just have story time where I read to her, but I may try that on the weekend sometime.

    It's one of Gregory Maguire's books.  He did Wicked (a back story on the Wicked Witch from OZ) and A Son of a Witch (the Wicked Witches son) among others.  I LOVED Wicked and Son of a Witch.  A Lion Among Men isn't starting out as great but I'll keep going, it isn't very long.  I loved The Wizard of Oz.  My mother and I watched it every single year when I was a little girl.  Back then they used to play it every year around the same time.  My husband bought me everything he could find on OZ one year for my birthday Angel
