I went to Patient Admin today to pick up the massive packet I need to pre-register for the OB unit. I'm 6 1/2 mo tomorrow, and I delivered my last DD at 37wks... so I figure if I turn it in around 30wks, that'll be plenty of time for the hospital to process it.
The guy at the desk told me that I didn't need to turn it in until 2 wks before my due date! Wha... It's a NAVY Hospital!! If there's one thing Navy ANYTHING is a pro at, it's procrastination! I know if I haven't gone into labor by mid-Jan, if I don't have this thing turned in yet they'll be like, Oh, here it is... we haven't processed it yet... I'm getting ticked off thinking about it.
Regardless of his advice, I'll be turning it in BEFORE 38wks.
Has anyone else gotten their pre-reg package? I know I'll take long enough to fill it out right, so I'm not worried I got it a bit early.

Hmm, I'm with Sharp, delivering at Mary Birch, and I was given one form to be turned in asap.
All the men in my family are Navy, though, so I understand your surprise!
My pre-reg. package is all stuff that's YOU info: The first half is your name and SSN, and DH's name and info, and where he works, and insurance info (for us it's just Tricare, we don't have additional insurance), then papers on hospital regulations and needing your signature to allow them to do things if you're out, or if it's a teaching hospital, or you having a living will or something, and Next of Kin info in case they need it. The second half is all stuff you can only half fill out- baby's name and birth date, time of birth, parent's name (this is all for the birth cert) info about how long it'll take for a birth cert. to be available to be born, how long it'll take to process your baby into your insurance, how long it'll take for the baby's SSN card to come in the mail, etc.
I always leave 'Gender' and 'Name' blocks empty JUST IN CASE the 20wk u/s was wrong and we wind up having a boy. They only process the first half of the package for insurance and to make sure I know hospital policies. The 2nd half they'll give back to me after I deliver to finish filling out.
We had to fill out the standard patient admit form at our very first appointment in case something happened, so we didn't have to go through the ER but could go straight to L&D. However, we don't get the packet with the remaining forms until we do our hospital tour and meeting with the L&D coordinator at 32 weeks.
I would do what you know is best (ie submit early), and keep a copy in case they lose it.
The midwife at my ob/gyn's office said not to preregister at our hospital, because all it does is result in an extra bill being sent to you. I figure they know we're coming since we had to give our due date when we signed up for the tour.
