Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Do you find it weird to bathe/shower with your toddler?

I was just curious.  I'm pregnant and have had a lot of bad hip and back pain.  I just can't lean over a tub anymore.  So the past few nights, I've put on a swimsuit and got in the tub with my DS.  It's so much easier to bathe him that way, but I wonder if anyone else does this?  I remember showering with my parents all the time when I was little (like less than 5 years old). Of course, DH could take over the bathing, but he already helps out a ton when he gets home, puts DS to bed so I can go to sleep early,  and now that I just sit in the tub, I don't mind it much.

  • No, I don't think it's weird at all.

  • It sounds perfectly normal to me.
  • I took DS in the shower with me a lot around a year since he was in an anti-bath phase and I was naked as I was showering too. I don't see a problem with it.
  • I don't think it's weird....he doesn't even have a sense of what private parts are right now.

  • If DD was too tired for her night bath, I'll just put her in the shower with me in the a.m.  I don't think there is anything wrong with it at this point.

  • I actually have been taking a bath every night with my daughter since she has been around 3 months old. It's our fun time everynight since I work. we spend a good half hour and play with her toys. I wash myself first, then she is next. Saves time and water!
  • I think it's weird that you take the time to put a bathing suit on!
I often get in the bath or shower with Gage. In the bath he point to and pokes my nipples and belly button. I just say 'momma's belly' or 'momma's breast'. He tires of poking me after a while. I make no difference between the belly button or nipple because to him they are no different, just body parts he doesn't see all the time. No need to gasp and pull his finger away like he is doing something 'wrong' or 'dirty' by being curious.

I think it's weird to wear a bathing suit, not to shower with a toddler.  I've never done it because it's not part of our routine- mh gives our son a bath every night.  But, I certainly don't make sure I'm always covered up every minute of the day with him.

Surprise Maybe we have more in common than we think!

  • I've done it a few times, but no bathing suit.

  • You wear a bathing suit to shower with your son because you're uncomfortable with him seeing your nude body?

Yes that is weird and I a judging you profusely right now.

  • I also think its weird that you wear a bathing suit.

  • Unless you are a pedophile, then why WOULD there be an issue with bathing with your child? You are their parent. You're not harming them by letting them see your naked body. In fact, they dont even understand what it means and certainly are not scarred by it.

And to the poster who said that they decided it was time to put clothes on because their INFANT was suddenly able to track their movement across the room? You get a big fat WTF.

Same here. DS and I shower every morning together.

  • Yeah the bathing suit is the only weird part. He's a baby!!!! I bathe/shower with my son regularly (of course he's still nursing so he sees my breasts daily anyway) and change clothes in front of him, etc.

  • Not weird at all. I find it convenient. And I think Alannah has fun having someone in the bath/ shower with her. No bathing suit required!

  • I've bathed a couple times with DS without a swimsuit and didn't think anything of it.  I regularly take a shower with DS standing outside the tub, leaning over the edge.  He's not watching me though; he likes to watch the water run down the drain.

  • I still shower with my almost 4 yr old daughter AND my 17 month old son. . . AT THE SAME TIME! They bathe together too, maybe I need to put DD in a bathing suit.

    Seriously?

  • DH & I take turns taking a shower/bath with our DD.  The other day she did pinch DH's nipples & he told her that was not nice & she stopped.  When we take our bath she will point to my breasts & say "momma's bobbies" & then at my belly & say "hi baby."
  • I don't see the need for a swimming suit.  I shower in front of and with DS and change clothes in front of him.  He usually just looks at me and laughs.  Then he runs away because he has more interesting things to do.

  • Not weird to bathe with your toddler.  Get in the tub and splash around with your DS while he gets clean!  I get in the tub with my DD almost every night.  Agree with pp- no bathing suit required!

  • Not at all.  Do you find it weird that I bring DS in the tub with me while I shower?  On weekends if I need to shower while he's awake he will scream and throw a fit if I get in the shower without him.  So in he goes.  And I'm not wearing a swimsuit.

  • I don't find it weird at all.
  • Not weird at all. Me and Casey shower together on Sundays, like a pp said you are their parent, what's the big deal.

And I also give a side eye to the poster that thought her 4 month old was tracking her dh's junk.  Oh some people.

This. She aslo runs to get in when DH showers too. It's the norm at our house. DD LOVES bath/shower time.
