Daycare moms....teacher holiday gifts?

I was reading on the working moms board that a lot of parents give the room teachers/assistants holiday gifts. I assume this was only for Christmas, right? What do you think is an acceptable amount? When do you give it to them?

I assume gift cards are the an acceptable gifts since I'm not sure what they could actually use or would like, WDYT?

This is all so new to me, but I do remember my mom giving my teachers presents every year before holiday break.

  • I think I am getting them gift sets from crabtree and evelyn, so about $30 each.

  • I just bought my son's preschool teacher a birthday gift yesterday and spent $32.

  • I don't have a LO in daycare, but I know how little the teachers and assistants make. A Target or Walmart giftcard would allow the recipient to spend the money however they wish--on something practical or on something fun.

If you do a gift rather than a gift card, you might want to go for something consumable over something like an ornament or a mug.

  • I'll give a gift at Christmas time and at the end of the year.  Over summer session, I gave an end-of-summer gift (GC to Tiff's Treats.)  I'll probably give GC to both of DS's teachers at Christmas time, but I usually don't spend more than $25 each.
  • When I was teaching, everyone's favorite gifts were Starbucks gift cards.  We also had a love/ hate relationship with candy.  I loved it but I might as well glue it to my butt as eat it.  *Personally* I was not a fan of ornaments or trinket type stuff.  Especially since I had 120 students.  That's a lot of ornaments!

  • my mil who has been teaching for 20+ years has shelves and shelves full of coffee mugs. she feels guilty getting rid of any (well and she's a packrat lol )

    she loves starbucks giftcards

another question....there is one main teacher and then 3 assistants that rotate in t's room.  are gifts supposed to be equal? i would say yes, but i'm new to this, too

  • Last year I gave L's DC teachers holiday cookies.  I am not getting them anything else.  Call me a scrooge...sorry.

  • Another former teacher here, and we do indeed love us some Starbucks and Target giftcards!  I was planning on making a nice card and including a $20 gift card for both of DS #1's teachers.

    :-)

  • Last year we gave the teachers Target gift cards, I think $40 each.

When we left the school we gave each $50 cash.

Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things. Lilypie Fourth Birthday tickers Pregnancy Ticker
