Baby Names

Beau

Okay, so this name came to me the other day and I sort of fell in love. I don't know why, but I just really like it. I know it might not be everyones cup of tea. I'm just looking for thoughts in general.

Our last name is French/Cajun and starts with an "L".

I should also add that I have not gotten to talk to DH about this name. He is in Afghanistan and it has been about 2 weeks since I've gotten to talk to him, so obviously this name is not 'officially' on our list. I just like it.

Is it a fine name to stand alone or do you think it needs to just be the NN of something like Beauregard  or Beaumont? (I'm not sure if I like either of those entirely...I just like Beau)

Thoughts.

Re: Beau

  • I think just Beau is a cute name.

  • I think it could stand alone. But I think it's nice because it could really be one of those nn's that doesn't have to match exactly with the given name.

Like you said it's a natural nn for Beauregard or Beaumont. It could also be a nn for Robert.

There is also Beauchamp (pronounced like Beecham)

  • I personally really love this name - it's short but strong (and infinitely better than "Bo").  I bet if your last name has that French/Cajun feel to it that it flows nicely.  I say keep it on your list of possibilities.

  • I think its fine on it own. Its a nice name and not over used.

  • I strongly dislike Beau. I have no idea why, but I just can't stand the name. It seems like something I would like which is why it's so odd that I loathe it.
  • It can be a standalone or short for Beauregarde, but I really don't like Beaumont. I do love the name, though; it's been a favorite of mine for years.

  • I like it a lot.  Just as Beau.

  • If you have a French/Cajun ln I think this would be perfect!  I like Beauregard, nn Beau, but we are not Southern enough to pull it off.

  • I love Beau! I prefer it as a NN, if only because our LN is way too short for it to work on its own. Bt if your LN is longer, Beau works just fine on its own.

It's a great, strong, masculine choice, and very cool.

  • It's my brother's name, so of course I like the name Beau. It's a good strong name, and stand on it's own.

  • We almost named my son Beau.  It was the runner up and my husband says we have to name our next boy Beau.  I really like it. My hesitation was because I hate Bo and I didnt want people to assume my son was named Bo if they didnt know the spelling.  Bo seems too country but Beau is strong and a bit romantic to me.

  • I know a grown up Beau. I think it's kind of a nice name. It's classic, but not trendy. I don't know if DH would go for it, or if he'd think it wasn't masculine enough, but the Beau I know pulls it off nicely.
  • You could consider Beaudry.  sounds like beau and dree....not dry.

  • I know two - Beau is in 1st grade and Bo is 2 (in daycare with my son).

I like Beau rather than Bo (although you weren't asking about that).  I think it can stand alone.  The Beau I know is a stand alone name.
