I may have a touch of PPD and am finally considering a low dose of antidepressants. I haven't spoken with my OB yet, but wanted to find out if there are brands that are safe for breastfeeding (exclusively). Does it pass to baby at all? TIA
ETA: What brand worked best in your opinion (with the caveat that everyone is different) and what side effects did you experience?
Re: Antidepressants and Breastfeeding?
My OB prescribed me Zoloft he said it was safe for PPD while BFing. I am also EBF. Not sure if it passes to the baby at all but you can probably find out more with google! I just took my OB's word for it.
EDIT: He prescribed it to me while I was pregnant because I had depression during pregnancy so if it's also safe while pregnant that's another plus! I doubt there's anything they'd let you take while pregnant that they wouldn't let you take while BFing.
"There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good. So love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living."
I am on Lexapro too! However, many insurance companies do not over it. Mine does so I got lucky there. Here is a website link that you can type in the name of the dug to see what effects it may have on baby if any. Most drugs are safe while breastfeeding. https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT
Thank you for the awesome link! We're in the process of getting ready to TTC. I also recommend people talk to their psychiatrists and other med professionals before getting hellbent on being on a certain drug as opposed to others.
