Hi! I've read that eating sweet potatoes / yams increases your chance of multiples. I'm curious:

-did anyone try this, and did it work?

-just any type of yam, or only a specific type?

-is this just rumor??

Yes.

You need to get yams from Africa. I found a pen pal online who shipped them to me.

You need to eat "two" every day, have them "twice" baked, and hum the Noah's Ark song while eating...... "the animals, the animals, they came in by twosies, twosies"

You don't even need to have sex. You just need to eat these yams.

I've heard of this, but from what I understand you have to pretty much exclusively eat yams, which **may** encourage hyperovulation. But then again, an unbalanced diet can prevent you from getting pregnant with any babies, let alone twins.

Also, this 'study' was done of a tribe in Africa that ate a large amount of yams, however twins also tend to me more common in the African race, so who knows what causes it.

OP. Questions like that sometimes get the multiples board fired up because no one on here really tried for twins and twin pregnancies are fraught with complications, so generally people agree that even if you could try for twins, you wouldn't want to/shouldn't.

That said, I have always wnted to know the answer to the question. Thanks AlishaMay.

Seriously? I've heard this before but it's a total myth! I haven't eaten yams since last Thanksgiving and my twins are due in March. Also, this pregnancy was unplanned (we already have three children) and we were totally shocked (and ecstatic) when we found out about the twins. I think that it has more to do with God's will and genetics than anything else. Are you trying to get pregnant with twins???

That's right!

For twins be sure to eat 2 yams at a time, but if you're looking for triplets eat 3 at a time, quads - 4 etc.....
