Sometimes you can luck-out and find stuff at thrift stores but I have yet to find one that has a maternity section. They just mix the maternity in with the other women's clothes. So far, I have found one maternity shirt
I also found some really good deals at Motherhood in their clearence section. Wal-mart online has a pretty good selection too and it's pretty inexpensive!
I don't have an answer about used maternity clothes but I did find some nice, inexpensive items at JcPenny, Old Navy and Target. Also, Forever21 now has a maternity line that is inexpenisve.
You can try Once Upon a Child. The one on Foster does NOT have maternity clothes, but the one near my in-laws in Michigan does. (Either way, I love this store, so it is worth checking out.)
Definitely Craigslist! That's where I plan to do the majority of my shopping (though maybe I shouldn't tell!!)

I'm not sure what you're looking for, but I am just about to post a listing on Craigs List. I am selling winter maternity clothes, primarily work outfits. They are for pre-pregnancy sizes 8 to 10 and are tall / long sizes (I am 5' 10"). It is mostly dress pants, a skirt, a couple of work jackets, sweaters, and turtlenecks. I am also including a maternity dress coat, grey wool, walking length. Most from Mimi Maternity (now Pea in the Pod), some from Motherhood. You can e-mail me at kdetoro@deloitte.com if you're interested. I'm asking $50 for the lot, but am willing to negotiate.
Old Navy worked for me in regards to basics. Online they are always having some sort of sale, coupons, free shipping. Honestly, their quality isn't great....but for maternity clothes, it does the job. I wore everything a ton and at the end, just sent it on to Goodwill.
Our pre-school in Deerfield is having a rummage sale this coming weekend. All they are selling is maternity wear, baby/kid clothing, toys, gear and books. Other than that - I shopped the sale rack at Macy's Maternity and Target. Good luck!
I'm not sure where you are located, but the Goodwill on Randall in Carpentersville is where I bought a lot of my maternity clothes. Clothes Mentors in Schaumburg on Roselle has lots of maternity clothes too. You can also check out the plus size section or go up a few sizes in regular clothing.
Re: Any suggestions for places to purchase used maternity clothes?
Try Craigslist!
