VBAC

My story ... I want a VBAC. sorry about spelling

I was induced at 39w1d because of severe adema ( no pre -e ) . I had my 12 hr of cervadil , had my ptiocin ....everything was gonna awesome . I was progressing nicely , and had an epiderual . My water broke with 4 hrs of the pit. This is where it starts to get complicated . I then realised i felt everything on my right side .After receiving the make dose into my epidural , the anthesiaist advise me that they couldn't give me anyymore pain relief . Fine , I sucked it up . An hour after my water broke , I was fully dilated  I pushed and pushed . I wanted her out so badly I pushed with set of four on a contraction .My husband and mother  saw my daughters head for 8 hours of pushing . Thats right , I could see the hair on her head , and pushed for eight hours !!!! Feeling everything on the right side ... well needless to say  I then I get rushed for a c-s . Because I could feel everything on that side , I was given a morphine drip . While it helped it didn't elevate the pain . While screaming through the birth of my child , my husband was crying uncontrollably . After being home for a week  my incision opened  a tiny bit . The doctor advised me that happens to about 10 percent of women . Everyday for 6 weeks , I had a nurse come to my house and pack my wound . I really hope that I can give birth vaginally next time ... what do you think?

  • i'm so sorry that you had such a traumatic birth experience. i hope you continue to heal both emotionally and physically. it takes time, allow the process to happen.

you didn't mention in your post why you were rushed for an emergency c-section. was it truly an emergency, or did they just end your labor because you'd been pushing for "too long?" that happens a lot.

you should get your medical records, your prental records as well as your hospital records and review them with a professional before you get pregnant again. if you decide to have an OB with the next baby, it is imperative that he/she has read and is familiar with the new ACOG guidelines that suggest most women should be given trial of labor.

whether you are a good candidate for a vbac depends on many factors and you should discuss your personal situation and medical history with a trianed professional.

i also suggest that you look into your local International Cesarean Awareness Network chapter and attend the next meeting.

  • Sorry to hear about your traumatic birth and c/s.  I would think that after proper healing time that your scar issue wouldn't be a problem with a VBAC, and the rest of your labor (obviously only knowing what you said and not being a medical professional) actually sounds like you'd be a good candidate.

It'd be interesting to see if the surgical report indicated any reason that baby may have not come out - short cord/cord wrapped, etc, or for next time work with a provider who can help you with more effective pushing - a midwife or doula who can suggest more optimal positions.  Even avoiding the epi next time might make you able to feel everything more and allow you to push more effectively.  Honestly, with as far as you got, I'd think you'd be an ideal candidate.
