Toddler Mom vent....

Nolan tantrums as most two year olds to, and I do not expect otherwise right now. There have been a lot of changes for him lately. What makes me INSANE is how loud he is when he does it. I am talking intentionally full mouth screaming right next to a sleeping sibling, or what used to be a sleeping sibling.

My nerves are shot over this (can you tell) any tips for me to deal other than wine?LOL Why the eff does he yell so loud? I do not mind the tantrums as I know they are part of development. He is ONLY loud like that when he knows someone is sleeping.

Re: Toddler Mom vent....

  • I don't have this particular problem yet (!) but I tried a new technique and its worked really well. We set up a special area (pillows, books, toys, etc) where she can go to "chill out" (what we call it, LOL, maybe not ideal but its better than saying "timeout" I think). Let him know this is special for him, etc.

I read this whole series on parenting about making time out positive. Google, there's a lot of resources.

When she melts or refuses to cooperate, I give her back the power (because really, that's all they want and it doesn't affect me as much as I like to think it does....it pisses me off and irritates me but not affect me) and its over WAY faster than if I fought her on it.

I ask her to either _(do what I want her to do)_ or go to her chill out spot. She usually elects to go chill out but is back within 2 minutes literally.  LOL  I tell her "you can come down when you've decided to be happy" or "When you've decided to put your shoes on, you can come down" or whatever.

So far, its worked 100% of the time!

    Just a thought :)

  • Have you tried the caveman technique from Happiest Toddler on the Block?  Get down on his level and say "Nolan is MAD, MAD, MAD!"  Not as loud but loud enough to get his attention.  Might not be the best when others are sleeping but seems to work sometimes with DS.
