TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Adoption Process ???

I think I've seen an adoption update here and there on this board. DH and I are in the beginning stages of talking about adopting, and I really don't know where to begin to see what is involved with the steps to adoption. I'm meeting up with a woman I met at my loss support group who has since adopted, and maybe that's really my first step. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Adoption Process ???

  • There are several women on here (& on PgAL!) who have been involved with the adoption process.  I'm not one of them, but just wanted to peep in to wish you GL!

  • Thanks, Clerk. I was a little hesitant at first about posting this, but do recall a few threads about this topic. Hope they do chime in!

  • we were doing a ttcal+6 adoption check in - but it was a small group.Right now I think dandyelle is the furthest through the process, you may want to page her. I'll ask swanck if she is still going to do it. It was helpful to learn. I highly recommend the adoption board for lurking and learning - they also have a great list of resources and info for folks just looking into it.
m/c#1 07/16/08 (11 weeks), m/c#2 10/10/08 (8 weeks). and then nothing since except every test possible (no answers). IUI#1 and #2: BFNs Super lucky to be buddies with Peetie. Our out of nowhere, surprise DD born 5/29/2011
  • The two that I can remember were str8ota and ambrandau.  St8ota just had her baby a few months ago so you might try paging her on PAL and ambrandau is pregnant and on PgAL.  Good luck to you!!

  • Thanks to all that chimed in. I'll start "observing" the adoption board (sounds better than lurking, which makes me feel creepy), and head out to get a book someone recommended to me.

Def. this, and lurking on the Adoption board is good idea as well. They are so helpful and a wealth of information.

Also, I would start considering what kind of adoption you want to go for - domestic, international, special needs, foster to adopt, etc. That will help you narrow down which agency you want to work with.

We had decided on Catholic Charities, and plan to work with them to grow our family after April.

I agree with everything pps have said.  Also think about what you want in an agency:  Open or close adoption (and it's very important to know the differences between open and close, there are several different degrees of open), if it matters if you're ttc while going through the process, etc.  There is also a yahoo group board where people share their experiences of agencies they dealt with.  We are approved and going through Catholic Social Services and one thing I liked was they did not have a problem with us ttc during the process, their only stipulation is we now have to wait until LO is 12 months before we can move forward and our profile can be shown.

Good luck and if you have any questions you can page me on PgAL or PAL and if I'm not on someone can always get a hold of me on FB and I can get back with you.
