We have friends coming into town this weekend and we want to meet them in DC for breakfast on Sunday AM (9:00ish). They are stayin at the St. Regis and won't have a car, so it needs to be walking distance for them or metro accessible. There will also be 3 toddlers, so a kid-friendly place is important too. Any recs? Now that I have been living the 'burbs for 3 years, I never to go into the city and am totally out of the loop.
You could try to get a reservation at the Tabard Inn near Dupont. I haven't been there in a while, but remember it being really good.
ETA: Not sure how kid-friendly it is, actually. You could ask if they have a kids menu or high chairs (if it's a younger kid) to get a sense of if kids would do well there.
I'd call the St. Regis and ask them for recommendations for kid friendly places. I haven't stayed in hotels in DC (no reason to, obviously) but when I travel I always ask the concierge questions like this.
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

breakfast is hard in DC but seriously any hotel should cater to travelers and be able to handle three kids.
the Capitol Hilton is directly across the street from the St Regis and has a kids breakfast menu
