Swaddling bigger babies?

Stella loves to be swaddled at night and before long, she's going to be too big for the Miracle Blankets.  For naps, I lightly swaddle her in the Aden + Anais blankets but I'd like something tighter for night time.

Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Charlotte was almost 6 months old before we quit swaddling her.  There are velcro swaddle blankets (can't remember the brand) at BRU that come in multiple sizes.  You can also search online for different sized swaddle blankets.  We would not have survived without them!

  • SwaddleMe makes sized blankets.  They're little pouches with velcro for closure.  You can get them in both cotton and fleece......we were a fan of the fleece variety but both work!  I used these on both of my boys until they were 6+ months old.  Tyler was always too long/big for the Miracle Blanket so these worked great for us.

We used the SwaddleMe's too, I had both cotton and fleece ones and loved them.  DD is big like Tyler and they worked great.

  • we use the swaddle me and it works perfectly. Lucy lent it to us and then we picked up a fleece one since it was getting colder (I spent about 13.00) Then this weekend I found like 15 of them at once upon a child, barely used or brand new for 4.50 ... I plan on buying the bigger size ones from there

  • I swaddled DD until almost 10 months old!  She LOVED being swaddled too and suprisingly never rolled over at night in them.  I double swaddled her....blanket first and then put a SwaddleMe over top of that (if I thought it would be too hot, sometimes I just put her in a onesie and socks instead of full pjs) - looked like complete child torture but she liked it and slept soundly. LOL :-)  Once she started rolling over while sleeping, I put her in the Swaddle blankets without the arms so that she was still somewhat wrapped up in it.
  • We used the Swaddle Me's too...but if I may be contrary, the sooner you can break her of the swaddle, the better. :-) We switched to sleep sacks at about 3 months.

  • DD was swaddled until she was 6 months. As she got bigger  I just used the generic swaddling blankets from BRU and double swaddled her with two blankets.

This is absolutely true.  It's one of the things I wish I'd broken sooner, quite honestly.  But who wants to mess with good sleep?  I did it with my second child even after experience with the first.  :)
