Help with Sleep Maintenance

Leanna posted recently on difficulties putting a toddler to sleep. Now the issue we are having is a bit different. We could put Big E to sleep rather quickly but for the past 2 weeks he's been getting up 3-4 times throughout the night...sometimes he stays in his bed crying, other times he gets up and comes to our room. My husband has been the one to care for him at night as I get up to feed the baby, and he's starting to get impatient as he does have to get up the next morning for work. Last night my hubby gave in and just stayed with Big E in his room after his 1st awakening and of course, he slept like a baby and did not wake up. So anyone have any ideas what's going on? The baby is sleeping in the RNP in our room and I can't help but think that Evan wakes up because he knows the baby is in there (even though it's only been the past 2 weeks)? Or maybe he is scared? Sometimes he gets up moments after the baby awakens to feed, even though the baby is not too loud as I don't let him get worked up.  And what tips do you have to fix this? Thanks in advance; hope you all have a great week!

Re: Help with Sleep Maintenance

  • :( Idk what to tell you, I hope it gets better soon though. I think Abraham is scared to be in his room by himself because as long as we're in there he's fine. As soon as we leave he freaks out. Hopefully someone can give good advice!

  • I wish I had some advice to offer but Nicholas began having night wakings a year and a half ago and two of my closest girlfriends that have kids the same exact age have told me that their sons wake up every night too.  He wakes up every night to get into bed with us.  In the beginning I was very "by the book" and dead set against letting him sleep with us, but after awhile I really couldn't care less.  its more important to me to actually get some sleep, so the only thing I can tell you is to just do whatever works until this phase ends.
  • Thanks! I guess we are not alone with these awakenings! Let's see what happens! :)
