Weird question re: little girls going to the bathroom

Adah's teacher had to change her clothes today bc she made a mess while going pee at school.  When she is on a big toilet, sometimes the pee just shoots straight our or kind of sprays out the front instead of dropping down into the bowl.  DH and I have both seen this happen a few times and it can make quite a mess.  At home, she has a child's potty with a guard on the front so she's never had a problem.

Is this normal?  Any suggestions on how to fix it?  I'm afraid to move her far back on the toilet seat, bc then she could fall in (and she has!).  Is it a possibility that she has a physical problem with her anatomy there?

  • nah,. I think sometimes they tilt their pelvises (sp?) so they can see themselves pee which cause it to shoot out the front instead of go down in the bowl. DD does this occassionally and it is because she wants to see herself pee like she can see her daddy and brothers pee. sorry if TMI.

  • Have you checked her opening? DD had some problems when she was first born so they had to actually tear her down there to re-open the area.  Now whenever we go to the doc for wellness checks they check her area to make sure it's not growing together again.  Next time at the Pedi you could always just have them check.

    Exactly this.

I would try having her lean forward a little bit (maybe with her elbows on her knees?) and tilt her hips back. She is probably tilting her hips forward.

  • DD still does this on occasion and she's 6. Stick out tongue

I think it has to do with the fear of falling in the bowl. Hopefully it will get easier as she gets older/bigger.

  • DD does this sometimes too. Like pp said I think they are trying to lean over to see the pee and the tilting of their pelvis is enough to make it come out sometimes. When I see her doing it I just have to remind her to sit up straight.
