Upstate NY Babies

Mirena users

I'm getting mine put in tomorrow, and just wondering what I should expect.

How much discomfort/cramping did you have right after? My OB said it really varies from person to person, but I'm just curious what others experiences were.

I'm supposed to bowl tomorrow night, and I'm wondering if I should cancel?!

Re: Mirena users

  • I didn't have any pain while they were putting it in...but by the time I got dressed and was making my follow up appt - the cramps set in. Strong period cramps...but not unbearable or anything. I definitely wouldn't have felt like bowling...but I could've handled it.

ETA: Just a thought - I didn't take any painkillers either b/c i was nursing....so a couple of advil probably would have done the trick.

  • I didn't experience any cramping at all.
  • I had some cramping but nothing horrible.  I had mine inserted at my 6 week pp appt. so I was still a little dilated making the insertion less painful.

  • The procedure was uncomfortable, but not painful.  I had bleeding and cramping for about 3 days, but ibuprofen worked great and is safe to take while nursing.
  • I didn't have any problem getting it inserted.

  • I had to make a second appt because my cervix did not want to cooperate and even then it was difficult (according to my care provider) and painful.  I think if I'd had it put in earlier it might have been easier, but they wanted to be sure my uterus had stopped shrinking back to normal.  I have had only minor cramping that Ibuprofen takes care of and light bleeding so far (it's been in a week today)  I could definitely have bowled later that day. :)  and now i see that you had your appt yesterday...  hope it went well!
