New to The Bump

New and TCC, with ????'s

DH and I have been married for 4 1/2 yrs..  but just recently started TCC (2 months)..  before that I was on the pill for almost 8 years.  When I first stoped taking BC DH wasn't completely found of the idea but knew that I had a fear of not being able to get pregnant b/c of the pill so we decided I would quit taking them..  and last week when I told him AF was here he actually seemed upset, too (unlike last month, it didn't seem to bother him either way)...

I keep seeing everywhere that you are supposed to lay on your back with your pelvis elevated for 20 minutes after BD...  but everytime he gets up "stuff" just goes everywhere....  What am I doing wrong???  Has anyone else had this issue before???  any suggestions??

Re: New and TCC, with ????'s

  • Hi there! You may want to check out the Trying to Get Pregnant board since you're new to TTC. Just a few basic pointers, it's a good idea to lurk for a few days to get a feel for the mood of the board, etc. Most people post an "intro" post just letting others know where they are in their journey and then feel free to ask any questions or provide support to others.

Regarding your question in this post, yes, a lot of people suggest elevating your hips (put a pillow under your butt) for 15-20 minutes after intercourse and avoid going to the bathroom for about an hour but really, I don't think there's any scientific evidence to support the increased success of conceiving when doing this. If you're having a lot of "spillage" when he gets up. I would have him lay still for a moment before getting up and then just have him move slowly. It's OK to have a little spillage, that's normal, and you'll still feel like everything comes out after you eventually get up but just know that the sperm are already on their way (swimming) so anything that comes out is fine (just semen). Gross I know but that's mother nature for you! Good luck, I hope you get a BFP soon!

  • TTC. It's TTC, for trying to conceive.

You don't need to lie on your back at all. Some people thought this might help, but really, as soon as your DH ejaculates, enough sperm have gotten where they need to go already. You also have what's called a seminal pool, an additional amount of sperm and semen, that can hang out inside you for days. So please, avoid the UTI and just get up.

Whatever comes out of you after sex is dead sperm and additional semen. It's not unusual, and it's not something you're doing wrong.
