my little man will be six months tomorrow & can bust out of a swaddle immediately. we have a sleep sack, but it just seems like too much when he's already wearing fleecey pj's.
when is it considered safe to let him sleep with a loose baby blanket?
Yeah, I'm probably a terrible mom, but Caleb has been sleeping with his Twinkle, Twinlke, Little Scout since about 2.5 months old and has had a blanket for awhile now, too. He never liked being swaddled, so we never worried with that.

DD slept slept from birth till 6 weeks in her carseat then we moved her too her crib. Took a couple days. She has been sleeping with a blanket since. Were not worried. She is a loud sleeper. Idk how she gets a good night sleep......she makes alot of noise and moves around......
Like PP, we have been letting DS sleep with a blanket for naps and sometimes at night if he wakes up....he sleeps sooooo much longer and better when he has a blanket, it's really the only time I can get longer than a 30 min. nap out of him!
I felt comfortable by 6 months old with DS having a blanket in his crib. It's a personal choice-do what you feel comfortable with. If you'd be up all night worrying, it's not worth it.
I think it's fine when your baby is able to pull something off their head when you're playing (put a blanket over his head and see if he yanks it off). DS had a blankie from about 5 months and DD has had a lovie since 4 months.

It really is safest to wait until he is over 1 year old to allow any loose blankets or soft toys in the crib. If he's already wearing a fleece sleeper, then maybe just a cotton sleepsack would be good. We use Halo Sleepsacks with my LO, and he sleeps in a onsie, footed sleeper, and cotton sleepsack. I have a fleece and velboa one for winter, and long sleeve onsies too. And besides the safety benefits, he won't be able to kick off the sleepsack.
