Full Size VS Travel Swing

Any advice on which to choose? I'm so tempted to get a travel swing. the other ones are huge! plus we are registering for a bouncy seat as well. It seems like it would be good to be able to move the swing from room to room.

Anyone know if i would be missing out on something important if i didn't get a full-size version? If i get full size i'll register for the little lamb. any recommendations for a travel size would be appreciated.

 Thanks!

Re: Full Size VS Travel Swing

  • I have a full size and a travel one for DD. I'm kind of big on if you can get what you need out of the small one, do it. I love having both only because I had the big one first and didn't get the travel one until we spent the week at my IL's. I would say that the biggest advantages to the big one would be, it's easier to get the baby in and out (and I used it CONSTANTLY!!!!!) Also if you have a dog or cat that might get a little too curious.

Also on the subject of big v. small, I only got one of those booster seats that strap onto the chair (Fischer Price) and I never had a big high chair. One of the best choices I made. It doesn't take up any room and I can pop it off and bring it where ever I go.

    Hope it helps.

  • Two TOTALLY different items for TOTALLY different things IMO.

DS slept in the regular swing for almost the first 5 months.  We had one that would rock side to side or front to back, and he LOVED the side to side motion.  The big one also played soothing music and had light-up stars, which helped him fall asleep.

The travel swing was all about entertainment.  Bright colors, loud noises ... it kept him occupied while I was in the shower ... kind of like a bouncer would have done.  So, I guess you could get away with this in lieu of a bouncer, but I wouldn't get one of these in place of a BIG swing.

  • The side to side functionality of the full size swing is hard to beat IMO.  We ended up getting a travel swing on clearance later on and it served its purpose for a beach trip and keeping him occupied in the condo.  But honestly, nothing beats that full size swing in the early days!

  • We had a full-size swing for DD. I hated how much room it took up. We got a travel swing this time. We are 2 hours away from my parents and IL's now and we like that we can take the swing with us when we go back for a weekend.

  • We have a full size swing that plugs into the wall outlet instead of running on batteries -- good thing too because I can't imagine how many batteries we'd have gone through already.

I'm not sure if the travel swings plug into the wall?

Also, the swing and bouncer are nothing alike.
