I had an OB apt. today and my blood pressure continues to be high and my doctor has recommended an induction. She doesn't want me going past my due date so after checking everyone's schedule I'm scheduled for Thursday morning! I'm really excited and nervous at the same time. For those of you that had an induction is there anything you wish you knew ahead of time? Thanks!

Re: Tell me about your induction please!
I wish I had asked the doc to break my water before starting pitocin- I was in early labor having contractions all weekend before and I thought maybe if he broke my water then it would start on it's own and I wouldn't have had to ask for an epi after only 30 minutes.
They recommended induction for BP for me too, but it was my choice b/c it wasn't high all the time and I only had protein in my urine once.
But mine was seriously a breeze. I labored for 9ish hours and pushed for 40 minutes.
I did not respond to pitocin and in an effort to move my labor along my Dr. broke my water. DD was still at a very high station and the breaking of my water created a true emergency C-section b/c of prolapsed cord. Had she been given more time to drop into my birth canal that would not have happened.I was glad I asked for my epi early b/c I thought DH might get to be present for DD's birth b/c of it. Instead, I ended up under general anesthesia and DH did not get to be there.
I am not trying to freak you out, but just saying REALLY think about what you want before you get there. I voiced to my Dr. my fear of prolapse cord and she dismissed me. I wish I had been stronger in my convictions.
I was induced w/ DD2 also. In at 7 AM, responded well to pitocin, epi at 9 AMish. Pushed twice, born at 11:07 AM.
I checked in and they started me on Cervadil around 8pm. They offered a sleeping pill but I turned it down, I wish I would have taken it! I slept pretty crappy all night, I was having mild contractions. They started Pitocin about 7am, I got the epidural about 10:30. They broke my water about 10:45 and she was born at 11:18 after pushing three times.
I progressed really fast on the Pitocin. I was dilated to about 1 when they started the Pit and it only took 4 hours to get to 10 cm and be ready to push.
I also had a bad outcome from having my water broken. I was group B strep positive, and the doctor broke my water at 10 am on Sat. I didn't have DD until 8:30 AM on Sunday. Because it had been such a long time since my water had broken, I got a uterine infection and a fever of 102 during labor. The fever + being group B strep positive meant DD automatically had to go to NICU for 48 hours in case I passed the infection onto her.
This meant I didn't get to hold her right away after she was born, I didn't get to really see her until 6 hours after she was born, and I almost wasn't able to breastfeed (because it took forever for my milk to come in, at least partially due to the infecction, because DD was being given bottles of formula every 3 hours in NICU because that "was their policy" and I wasn't always able to be there to try to nurse her because I had to be in my room to recieve antibiotics).
I did not respond well to the Pitocin either and ended up having an emergency c-section as well. If I could do it all again, I would: Take one last long relaxing shower, accept the sleeping pill, and prepare myself for the flu like after effects of pitocin and magnesium sulfate (administered sometimes for high blood pressure).
I was induced with both of mine. Both of mine went very smoothly no complications at all. First was about 9 hours of labor (after water started leaking but only 4 hours after they started pitocin) and the 2nd was about 8 hours after they started pitocin and about 2 hours after the OB broke my water.
I wouold MUCH rather my water break on its own. With my first my ater started leaking but I did not go into labor/having contrax so after waiting about 4 hours they went ahead and started pitocin. She came only 4-5 hours later and I only pushed twice and she was out. With the second I was admitted at 6am, pit started at around 7. I was having contractions but my water had not broken. The OB decided to break my water. She tried the 1st time, it hurt like a ***, much worse than the contrax I was having which were no picnic. It was not sucessful so she had to do it again a few hours later.
That time it did work and I went into transition very soon after and started pushing only about 2 hours after she broke my water. Oh and I had not had the Epi yet either time she broke my water, so that probably would have made it much better. The contractions came on MUCH more intense after she broke my water and I asked for the epi pretty quickly after that. I only pushed for about 30 minutes.
Wow - there are so many different stories with inductions! It just goes to show that everyone is different and you never know what might happen.
Be excited about your induction, I was too! I went in the night before and was started on cervidill. It's like a flat tampon they insert and it's suppose to stay there all night. Mine did not. It came out a couple of hours later so they had to give me another one. I accepted the sleeping pill! We still didn't sleep great, but I'm sure it was better than not taking it. They started me on the pitocin the next morning around 6am, I was still around a -2 station, 1cm dilated and 50% effaced. The doctor broke my water around 11am - it hurt like a mf'er and was the worst part of my labor. After that I asked for the epi. I had complications with the pitocin - I had to lay on my left side or the baby would have problems, later on they had the pitocin jacked up high and I wasn't contracting at all. From the time they broke my water until about 3o'clock it was touch and go w/my progression and the way Max was responding so they were prepared for me to go in for a Csection. I progressed from a 3 to a 10 w/in 20-40 minutes. The dr came in told me I was at a 10 and to start pushing, I pushed for about 20 minutes and they told me to stop and wait for the dr. When the dr got in I pushed 2, maybe 3 times and then the dr told me I could grab a hold of Max and pull him out. I hated my water being broke and the stupid blood pressure cuff, but I loved my epi and I'm okay with being induced. I think maybe next time - not sure there will be a next time - I would want to go into labor on my own, but I'd still get an epi!
