The ultimate compliment?

I wanted to share this neat little story about my mom. She is caring for my nephew for a few days while my sister is out of town, and they went to the place where my brother works to go out to lunch with him. When my mom got there and asked for him, another man paged him.

While they were waiting for my brother to come, the guy asked my mom, "How do you know M.?" She responded, "I'm his mom actually." After the whole, "No way" bit (she's really pretty & looks rather young), the man says, "I have a seven year old son, and I hope he turns out like M. when he grows up. He is such a neat person. Really, what did you do to raise him that way?" How incredibly touching and flattering.

As is realistic, I've had tons of issues with my mom (and brother!) over the years, but I was so happy for her when I heard this, and it makes me choke up. Can you imagine a much better parenting compliment? What would you like to hear about your child someday?

  • Wow, that is really sweet.  That probably is the nicest thing to say to a parent- "you did everything right, he's the best kind of person".  :)  I hope someone can say that about S when he's older.
