what length pants would I wear?

LOL. I know, dumb question.

But I really want t order these pants from Lands end, and I have no idea what length I am and I do not have a measuring tape. Anyone want to guess? At least give me an idea? (I am 5'8, 143 lbs)

TTT, you especially?

Re: what length pants would I wear?

  • Ohhhhh, cute!  What shoes do you plan on wearing with them?  Will the shoes have a heel?  If so, approximately how high?
  • Loading the player...
  • well I guess I could wear them with heels if they were longer. But I was thinking more for everyday, like with my privos- or a "dressier" sneaker.

hmm..now you got me thinking of getting the lighter color in longer. That is if I can fiigure out what length I would wear.Stick out tongue

Also, they are 30% off today.

  • Wait, so they need your inseam? I'd get a string or piece of yarn and have your husband measure your inseam, then hold it up to your regular old utility tape measure, which I'm sure you have in a toolbox somewhere.

If it were me, I'd go to the Lands End store in the Sears at Tri County. We were just there yesterday, they have a great selection, and they can measure you and all that jazz.

ETA: Oh, I didn't realize they were on sale today. It's kind of hard to guess at an inseam. :-(

My advice?  Buy two pair (on reg, one tall).  If need be, you could exchange the one that doesn't work.  If you are planning to wear them with anything more than a flat / 1/2" heel, you will need the tall.  You could *probably* get away with the regular length (for flats only); but you might not be able to dry them (for fear of losing any length).

  • Regular
Regular describes a well-proportioned body 5'4"-5'7" tall, with hips slightly larger than bust.

    Tall
Tall, at 5'8"-6'0", accommodates long torsos. Body length increases 1 1/2" and sleeve length increases 1" from our Regular fit.
  • So I know this sounds dumb, but you can always guestimate length one of two ways.  Read that as no laughing aloud... I am being serious!

First a piece of paper is 8.5 by 11 inchs.  You can use the string idea and then get close to accurate measurement by seeing how many lengths of paper it takes to measure the string.

Second, the average woman's fingertip to nose is 3 feet or 1 yard (I know this as it is an old timers method of measurements for seamstresses when you are too lazy to get or don't have a tape measure handy and need to know approx. how many yards of fabric you have in a remnant).  You could always use that to guestimate how far off of 36 inches you are.

Oh and if you are desperate, you know where I live and we have several at home.  :)

  • I am 5'7' and have long legs.  If it were me I would got the long.  I never can wear a regular length in pants.
  • Thanks girls. I just totally realized I wasn't clear. I know what SIZE I would wear, an 8.

I just need the inseam that I am unsure of. And in Lands End you have to give an actual length, besides long, regular, etc.

    Thanks for the insight!!

WTF?  You have to actually specify your inseam?!  That's the most ridiculous hog-wash I've ever heard of.  FWIW, the size chart specifies a size 8 pants, tall = 28.5' inseam.  I'd guess that.

  • Yeah, it is annoying for people like me that are clueless- but just think you can get the PERFECT length pants... provided you actually know your inseam.

Thanks for the help TTT. Knew I could count on you!
