Pack and Play?

Are they necessary?  What do you use them for or plan on using them for?  Thanks!

Re: Pack and Play?

  • We got one when we had ds and did not use it until he was over 6 months.. we used it when we needed to keep him contained for some reason and as a place to sleep when we went on vacation or visited family/friends.. ds is now 3 and we have just stopped using it as ds has just moved into a bog boy bed cause of #2 arriving soon.. we would not want to confuse him now that he is in a regular bed.. we will be using it for #2 as well for the same reasons as we did with ds and as a changing table this time around ( we live in a 2 story house now compared to an apartment when we had ds) so we dont have to go upstairs every time to change her esp right after I have my c section..

  • We set it up on our first floor and used it for DD's naps rather than bring her upstairs to her crib when she was first born.  Now she sleeps better in her crib so we don't use it for that purpose anymore.  Our closest family lives 3+ hours away so we use it for when we travel.

Some use it instead of a traditional bassinet in their bedroom before they transition LO to a crib.

  • We have it set up in our room right now, we're planning on having him sleep in it for the first few months, instead of a bassinet.  Then we'll use it for sleep overs at grandmas, traveling, going to all-day car shows, etc.

  • We have used ours a lot (Graco Silhouette).  We kept DS in our room in the bassinet of the pnp for the first four months.  It was nice because he was up to BF every two hours for the first month and a half.  I felt better having him in our room too.  We also use it when we travel since we don't live near any family.

  • I use it for when I cook or use the restroom and need LO to be entertained.  We also use it for when she sleeps away from home.
  • We bought the Graco with newborn napper.  It will be set up in our bedroom for baby to sleep for the first few weeks (maybe month or more).  I plan to breastfeed, and I like the idea of baby being close during the first little while.

We'll be travelling to Mexico for my brothers wedding when LO is 2 months old, so we will bring it there for sleeping as well.

  • We use ours all the time (I actually have 2).  DD slept in hers in our room until she was 6.5 months.  We also bring it with us wherever we go.  She needs a quiet safe place to nap when we are at family and friends houses. We also use one on our lower level for naps when we watch movies or when we need to keep her contained when we are doing laundry or cleaning.

  • With DD we didn't need one at home--we lived in a single-floor, one-bedroom apartment. But DD went to work with me every day (part-time) and so I had a PNP there at work.

This time we have a PNP because we want somewhere to lay the baby downstairs if he/she is sleeping when we're doing work (on the computer downstairs), cooking in the kitchen, etc.

The PNP was also a must for us for traveling (we travel at least 5x/year).

  • Definitely a necessity if you travel.  We used ours on the first floor until DS was about 5 months old.  Now we use it when we go visit family or when my niece comes over and needs someplace to nap.  We've used it more often than I thought we would.

We got one with the changing station and newborn bassinet and definitely didn't need the changing station.  Now that and the bassinet are taking up space in a closet since I don't lug those with us when we go visit family.  If we were to get another one I'd get one without those features.

  • It's a nice to have in my  opinion.  We had a bassinet for DS to nap in, we already have a changing table/dresser, we don't do road trips often so we just use it as a playpen.  We have the Graco tot bloc in the bugs quilt and as a playpen it's a hit.

we might use it for overnights in the future but we got it to have a safe place for DS to play.  He loves all of the interactive features.

  • We have one set up in our living room and plan on using the bassinet for LO to nap in during the day and the changing station so we don't have to run upstairs to his bedroom every time to change him.
