Re: **Weekly Lovenox Ladies Check-in**

  • No actual plan but I THINK I would like to try to go as long as possible unmedicated. But I will not attempt to be super woman if I'm really in bad pain.

I also meet my new OB next week and I need to find out what his stance is on several things.

  • I was just switched to the generic Lovenox. I'm not hating it but i don't like it as much. It does burn more like some other ladies said. I'm going to be having a c-section but we haven't set a date for it yet. I don't really like getting one but I had an emergency one w/ ds#1 b/c of sudden pre-e and again w/ #2 b/c of failure to progress they were worried about my bp an dhow much longer baby and I could tolerate labor so we opted for a c-section again. My ob urged me to get one this time and after being in labor for 24 hours last time w/ no epi b/c I hadn't reached 3 cm and they didn't want to slow progress down even more I'm just going to get one so as not to have a repeat of last time.

  • I don't have a birth plan yet.  I really want to have a Doula involved - is anyone else planning on doing this?  Also, just curious, is anyone wanting to try to have a natural birth?

Injecting myself is becoming more difficult.  Some days the needle goes in smoothly while other I end up having to try a couple of different places.  Needless to say, I am covered in bruises now.  I wish I knew why I have begun bruising.  I started bruising when I switched to the generic of Lovenox.  I went back to Lovenox, yet the bruising has continued.  I like the Lovenox brand needles much more - I hope this bruising doesn't continue.  I'm also taking aspirin, which I restarted (my cardiologist and peri. couldn't agree on aspirin therapy) at the same time I switched to the generic version of Lovenox; so I wonder if the aspirin had something to do with the bruising (I had zero bruising up until beginning the generic).  Oh well, in the big scheme of things, it is NOT a big deal to have bruising as long as the baby is healthy :)

You'll notice more bruising the longer you are on the blood thinners.  You'll also bruise a lot easier if you bump into things, etc.  Your blood is super thin right now, so you 'bleed' easier, and that includes bruising.

You'll also notice that if you nick yourself shaving, get a paper cut, etc that you will bleed pretty freely!  The nice thing about it is that blood draws go much faster :)

  • Just wanted to let you all know that I had my little baby Wyatt on 10-16-10. A whole month early! He is wonderful, and everything is going really well. Good luck ladies! Glad you have another success story to read. Stay positive. It is all so worth it!
  • No birth plan. I have a few requests that have more to do with the baby than my labor. I didn't have one the first time around and it was fine so I'm not going to write one out this time. But I do suppose there is one in my head :)

My bruising is much better now that I switched from Heparin to generic Lovenox. I never used Lovenox (INS won't cover name brand) so I can't compare it to Lovenox but this burns more than Heparin and bruises far less. I had heated lumpy ginormous bruises with Heparin.

  • no birth plan yet. at. all. no clue what to even plan for at this point. i will talk to my ob about it more though. i may need to be induced or have a c/s. waiting to see if the placenta previa clears up or not. lots to think about!

my bruising is not bad at all. i had some really bad ones early on but any more my skin just looks discolored; not actually bruised. i do notice that i have a couple of bumps under my skin that i think are scar tissue. i will ask my ob about them at my appt on the 1st. i find that if it hurts right away to push the needle through i poke around to find a new spot and that seems to help. some spots do not hurt in the slightest and some hurt and then the injection burns. but over all i really dont think it's that bad.

  • Hi Ladies,

I'm new to this board and so happy to find a group that can relate! I'd like to be added to the list please... my due date is estimated around June 28, 2011.  I will be starting the lovenox shots soon (haven't seen my Dr. yet for my first appt.)  With my first pregnancy, 5 years ago, I was on blood thinners due to a DVT I had several years before.

I don't have a birth plan yet... all I know is i've forgotten a lot! I'm nervous and excited all at the same time, but mostly nervous because I recently miscarried and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this blessing sticks!

  • No official laid-out plan just yet, though as things come up(or I think of them) I'm making sure DH knows what I want.

  • Thank you!  I feel better after reading your post.  I was on Warfarin before - my INR was never "correct" so it seems like there were months when I was going in every week.  I just had assumed the bruising wouldn't be any worse than it was when I was on oral Warfarin. Blah!  Thank you for the info.!!
