Does anyone make their own body wash?

I'm in the process of concocting my own recipe and I have questions.  Mostly about how much xanthon gum I need to use per gallon of liquid soap.. if I need to use it at all, or if there is something better out there to keep my ingredients from separating? 

And 'hi' to everyone here who remembers me, lol.  It's been a bit ?

    Hey Kili!  Nice to "see" you.  :)

     

    I just use Dr. Bronner's Almond liquid soap for my body wash.  Love it.

    that stuff is good.  I'm attempting to make a creamy wash though, something that will be good for shaving too.  I'm adding in some coconut oil and shea butter and I'm going to make a huge batch, lol... I just don't want everything to separate.

    When you figure it out will you let us in on your secret?  I use bar soap to wash with and DH's non ecofriendly soap to shave with.  I miss my dove body wash!

    I just use EF shampoo for shaving.  It's the EF Kirkland Signature stuff from Costco, and really works great.

    I think it would probably work like making mayonnaise...emulsify the oil into the other ingredients.  The best way to do that is to use a food processor or blender.  Put all of the ingredients that are not oil-based (she butter and coconut oil should be left out) into the container and turn it up to high.  Melt the shea and coconut until they are a liquid/oil consistency slowly (like really, really, really slowly) start drizzling the oil into the blender container while it's still on high.  Once everything is mixed I would add the emulsifier, not sure if you've looked at soap making supplies but one of the emulsifiers that are sold for soaps would probably work well.

    Just a heads up, the shea will definitely keep it from lathering..it'll be more like a lotion consistency.

    I've been pretty good, RL keeps throwing junk at me and I'm pretty clumsy so sometimes it hits me (or I fall and that's just as bad)  but I'm pretty good at picking myself and dusting myself off, lol.  Been busy.  I'm starting to second guess myself on having two kids so close together (3 and almost 2)  IT'S CUH-RAZY AROUND HERE!!!!! 

    I think about you every.single.time I see anything bee related, lol ?  How have you been, I feel like I've been mia forever

    thanks for all this, I've been looking at so many recipes and tutorials lately that they're starting to blend together.  They have so many creamy soaps on Etsy that have shea in it.  I wonder how they get theirs to lather with it still being so creamy?  Ya think any of them will tell me their secrets?  lol
