Baby Names

I'm the one who liked Elliot for a girl

So it seems that people are very split about having the name Elliot as a girl- you either love it or hate it, and I don't want to do that to my little girl. My husband and I have instead chosen the name:

                              Addison Grace

I think this is a beautiful name and will grow with her. Hope you all like it! Stick out tongue

  • Oh dear.

I think I hate Addison more than I hate Elliott on a girl :|

  • i like them both! elliot would have been cool but addison is nice too!
  • Congratulations on deciding on a name, it's beautiful!
  • Another boys name, but at least it's not one I'm considering for my boy - thank goodness! And thanks for updating us (and a giant Internet hug for not using Elliot/Elliott).

  • While I don't like Addison for a girl, I like it way more than Elliot.
  • I'm not a big fan of any name for a girl that ends in "son"... but I like this choice much better than Elliot.

  • Personally I can't stand traditional boy names for girls.  But what difference does it make to you what I think or what anyone else on the board thinks.  We are not the name police.

Wow.. did I say you were the name police? I was just looking for opinions, as I think they are important. Thanks though, now I know FOR SURE that you ladies are, in fact, not the name police. Thanks for clearing that up.

    Haha.

Btw, I love the name Addison! Very pretty! My mothers friend has a daughter named Addison and she goes by Addie.

  • I, personally, don't like Addison/Madison and their variations.  Maddy/Addy NNs just make me cringe.  And, Grace is so overused that it feels like a perma-MN.  Like, if you couldn't think of anything to fill the space, throw a Marie or Grace or Rose in there, and blam-O, you have yourself a full name.

This name isn't terrible, in fact, it's quite normal.  That kinda makes me hate it.

Hmm...well actually Grace is my husband's grandmother name so it does have meaning to us, but you wouldn't know that. I agree with you that it is overused if it's not a family name.

  • lol...another no from me...

Grace is beautiful...Addsion is just ugly to me.

  • I think it is a beautiful name!
  • I hate Addison almost as much as I hate Elliot on a girl.

  • I'm not a fan of Addison, but I definitely like it better than Elliot for a girl. I love Grace. Have you considered Grace for the first name? I love Grace/Gracie!

  • I actually think WE are going to name our daughter Elliette, so it's a more female version of Elliot. Our first daughter's name is Parker (named after my grandma Patty) and we wanted something gender neutral.

My husband's grandmother's name was Elaine, so Elliette would be for her?AND we were thinking of using Addison as her middle name for my Uncle Arthur.

But I think it might be Elliette Jordan because Jordan is my husband's mother's maiden name?

  • While it's better than Elliot, it has two things working against it.  1) It literally means "son of Adam".  It's a male surname that has been co-opted b/c of a TV show.   2) There are billion little Addisons or Adelaides or Addies running around now.  Your daughter will be one of many.
  • Good choice.  I thank you and my son thanks you.
  • Like both names...I think I like Elliot better cause its not on the top whatever list....but Addison was a prepregnancy favorite name of mine.

    Congrats on the final decision!
