Toddlers: 24 Months+

DS has a cold, we leave for vacation in 2 days :(

WDYT...... Henry woke up with a bit of a cold on Friday. Slight runny nose that got worse throughout the day. Yesterday he felt better, but not great. Today was better but now his asthma has flared up (typical of him with a cold). Even walking/playing makes him breathe really hard.

Sooooo.... in the past when DS has gotten a cold and had an asthma flare up (5 times last year) he has had to go on an oral steroid eventually. That being said we have gotten better at managing his asthma without steroids yet this season.

And the kicker....we are leaving home on Tuesday and flying out of the country on Wedn. Should I call the pedi and ask for a steroid? Starting using it now, or just bring it "just in case"?

I hope hope hope that he is MUCH better tomorow, we will see. I dont want to over medicate him, but I also dont want him to be in pain flying and I want us all to enjoy this once in a lifetime trip.

  • get the steroids and get them started.  Best to get him as strong as possible before the plane ride.

I completely agree... and maybe get him checked for an ear infection too. It can't hurt. Plus ear infections and planes are NOT cool!

  • I would go see the dr.  Better now than in a foreign country.  We went to Disney last December and 2 days before we left my daughter got the same thing.  I took her in her just to be safe.  Turns out just a common cold.  She did give us numbing drops for the flight just in case.  I would rather spend the $20 copay to have piece of mind and so you are not worrying while on vacation.
