Any tips for gaining weight???

I know this sounds crazy, but I would like to gain a bit of weight. I was slim before I got pregnant and now I'm ten pounds less than my pre-preg weight (thanks to breastfeeding!) and sitting close to a BMI of 18... I look gaunt and need to add some muscle mass so my jeans fit again!

However, I'm not going to go to a gym - there is nothing close to my house and I'm not really able to go at lunch-time. I take weekly yoga classes and walk the dog and occasionally go hiking. I have been doing squats and lunges around the house (my dog thinks it's hilarious!) and the occasional yoga dvd in the evening (great for my sore back after a day at the computer). 

So, I'm looking for an effective fitness program that I can do easily (and cheaply) from home. Any tips about squeezing in a few minutes a day to get some muscle back?

  • Use the heaviest weight you can and do slow repetitions, that will help you bulk up a little.  Avoid fast movements with weights that makes you slim down.  Trust me, you won't bulk up too much too fast so don't be afraid of that.  Also, try some protein powder blended with full fat yogurt eveyday after the workout to add to your weight.
