How do I kill fruit flies?

I had a fruit fly explosion over night! They gross me out, how do I kill them? I left a plastic lid with some honey sitting out hoping to trap them. Will that work?

    We just went through this.  First, make sure there's nothing attracting them (duh).  Then put out a big cup of apple cider vinegar.  They get lured in then drown.  Also, spray down your sink with bleach and pour some down the drain.

    That happened to us a few years ago and it was gross. I used a shallow dish of apple cider vinegar and definitely make sure your disposal is clean

    mix in a drop of dish soap to break the surface tension so they fall in.  you can use red wine or red wine vinegar or apple juice.

    I use a cup of red wine... cover it with plastic wrap but poke a few holes for them to be able to get in it. Then they can't get out! Works wonders. I swear by it.

    We used empty water bottles with about a half inch of molasses in the bottom (honey was recommended, but we didn't have any).  We put one in each room and in a few days there was not-a-one left.
