F/U to rolling in crib post last night

So I guess I should've clarified in my post last night that I am totally comfortable with Brenna sleeping on her tummy. Its just so new to her that I knew she would not go down easy.

So when we put her to bed last night she immediately flipped to her belly and cried for about 10 mins (yes, we are MEAN parents and let LO cry a bit)...and she finally calmed down and fall asleep on her tummy.  But then woke up 45 mins later and would not calm down.  She was ALL over her crib...rolling this way and that and crying the whole time.  DH got her back to sleep but then she was waking up about every hour...sometimes she would drift back to sleep and we also had to get up and put her back on her back and soothe her back to sleep.

I just need to know that eventually she will learn to like sleeping on her stomach...we have been so spoiled with amazing sleep up until now...I feel like a complete newbie now....hate to hear her cry but don't really know what to do for her..

I wish I had tips, but Margaux just kind of flipped and that was that.

  • I'm sure she'll get used to sleeping on her belly. It'll probably take a few days, but soon she'll be lying with her butt in the air...sleeping soundly :)

What a beautiful photo. She's so pretty, and I love the shirt too..elephants are just so cute.

  • just sent you an email. she will!
  • Totally unrelated to sleep position.. is she warm enough?

If Charlie isn't all snuggled in thick footie jammies and his fuzziest blanket, he cries.  The main problem there is that he rolls a lot and gets uncovered and gets cold.  Several times per night!!

  • Aaron went through a rough spot at that age when he started flipping on his tummy and not wanting to be there--and he had issues flipping back. He was wearing his DOC Band at that age, and still had unresolved Torticollis issues.

He finally figured out tummy sleeping at 8.5/9 months and that was the age when he finally started sleeping well.

MOST nights, he's a tummy sleeper.

  • I think it's a rite of passage, they all go through that stage where they roll over and don't like being on their belly and keep you awake half the night.  You will also likely go through it when she learns to sit up and also to pull herself up to a stand.  Simon rolled at 16 weeks but I kept him in his sleep positioner until he was able to roll out of that at 5 months so it bought me another month of back sleeping.  At 5 months he was able to roll from stomach to back so rolling over at night wasn't an issue.  Here's the one I used and it was a lifesaver:  https://www.walmart.com/ip/The-First-Years-Airflow-Infant-Sleep-Positioner/4645524 of course he was used to it since we used it with him from birth since I had him sleep on his side for the first couple months (reflux baby).
