rule of thumb on breastmilk?

If DD starts a bottle  but doesn't finish it, can it go back in the fridge? How long is it good for at that point?

Re: rule of thumb on breastmilk?

  • Since it's been contaminated, I would use it at the next feeding.  I usually only heated up a bottle once, also.

Yep you can offer it at the next feeding and then it should be thrown away.

  • For us - No, it does not go back in the fridge because you can not reheat it a second time. Once the bottle was used, we had a rule to finish it in 4 hours although I'm not sure where that number came from.

    Kellymom on the issue.

This.  We would not refrigerate it but would leave it out and use it within 4 hours or toss it.
