Austin Babies

what can the three of us do today?

DH has off work, and I want to get him and DS out of the house.  If we stay here, DH will just get on his work computer and "work" from home and it will be like he didn't even take a vaca day.

I want to go somewhere cool (and not exotic) for lunch.  "Cool" meaning somewhere downtown maybe?  But not $- less than $10-$15/person.  Maybe somewhere like Chedds?  But I don't know if DH will go for no meat, somewhere kinda like that though.  We are homebodies for the most part, DH especially, so we haven't been to any cool/central places to eat really.  Remember, DH is picky and sticks mainly to hamburgers, chicken tenders, etc.

Then maybe somewhere fun for S.  A cool park maybe?

GO!

  • There are lots of fun restaurants downtown... walk around Second street and you have your pick.  My current fave though is Walton's Fancy and Staple-- it's on 6th street near whole foods.  It is Sandra Bullock's latest restaurant and has the best sandwiches and salads-- plus bonus delicious deserts.  Lemon Tart is to die for.

  • We love the park at Mueller. As for fun places to eat, what about Doc's on SoCo? They have traditional stuff it sounds like he'll like, but also fun Austin-y type stuff, too.

Also, the Children's Museum is downtown. Or the train at Zilker for your little conductor?

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • I've been wanting to try Homeslice pizza.  I think it's on 1st?  I'm sure there are a ton of cool parks down there, but Zilker would be easy.
  • Holy EFF.  There's a train at Zilker?

    :::off to google:::

  • Pease park is located off Lamar - https://www.yelp.com/biz/pease-park-austin -- it has 2 nice play structures for the kids, some swings, and it's a really fun trail to walk along (there are tons of trees).  We love going here.

There is a Galaxy Cafe closeby off West Lynn - they have all kinds of hamburgers, sandwiches, wraps, etc and it's about $10pp.  We love their food.

It looks like they are about .8 miles away from each other.

  • you could check out the trailer park on SoCo for lunch - they have picnic tables so you could each get what you want.

but I don't know what else there is to do for the LO. :/  it's somewhat close to zilker though.

  • Whole Foods has a plethora of pre-made options for lunch.  Plus they have a little park up on the top of the first floor (take the stairs outside).  You could eat lunch and watch S play.

  • The train at Zilker is awesome - runs on the hour. I highly recommend it - my boys LOVE it.  You can then walk to Chuy's, Austin Java or Shady Grove for lunch.  Also, bring some bread and feed the ducks in the lake. Have a great day.

  • If you haven't done the train at Zilker, I think you have your plans set!! He will love it! And now is a good time to do it, while it's still warm outside (er, uh, hot? The high is 92 today). Then go down the street for a hamburger at Shady Grove!
