3rd Trimester

Don't tell me what to do!

Okay, so does anyone else have a sometimes physically demanding job?  I have one that sometimes involves a lot of physical labor.  I consider myself fairly fit and even though I am 28 weeks I've had a lot of people tell me I don't look that far along.  Anyway, there are days that the job can be a little demanding for me right now, but I think I know my own limits.  If something really hurts I stop and when I'm done with a long day I rest at night and on the weekends.  I know there are days I probably overdo it and should ease up a little more, but I don't want to disappoint people I work with if I don't have too.  Everyone is on my case about taking it easy, etc.  I know there are bad things that can happen when you overdo it, but shouldn't my body give me the cues on what I can and can't do?

  • I don't have a physically demanding job, but I also don't have a desk job. I am on my feet all day long. I just take a lot of breaks! People at my work know I can't lift a lot and can't go on ladders and what not. One day I was lifting more weight than I should and I started spotting, so maybe your body will tell you! I also worked right up until my due date. Still no baby, but my maternity leave started today.

  • I have a  physically demanding job, and have continued the entire pregnancy.  People have been "shocked" at some of th things I've done while pregnant, but thats just my body.  My doctor says its fine, I was doing it before I was pregnant so I can continue.  You, and only you, can know when you are pushing it too far.

  • Yes the cues will be  contractions and pre-term labor. Maybe not, but it is definitely a risk of not taking it easy. If people are giving you the green light to taking it easy, then you should start slowing down.

  • I work as a hairstylist, which isnt necessarily a physically demanding job. But I am on my feet for sometimes up to 10 hours a day. I just take lots of little breaks, drink lots of water, and if I feel winded or tired people understand. I think you probably know your own body enough to know when your pushing it. I think if you've been doing your job for a while then your body is used to that kind of work. You should be fine to continue doing that kind of work, but then again its your body and if you do something thats too much, I would imagine your body would let you know. And I REALLY don't think you will disappoint coworkers if you need to take a couple days here and there easy. Everyone needs to understand that pregnancy is different for everyone and the amount of work one person can do may be different than another person. So I say do what your body tells you to, if you need a break take one....<<Kit kat bar song just came into my head on that one!! haha.

    Goodluck!
