Vitex questions

I know Vitex works similar to clomid, will it make me as crazy as clomid did?

I'm finding some conflicting info about when to take it.  Do I take it every day or only cd1 through ?

Re: Vitex questions

  • I have never taken Clomid, but in taking Vitex, I never noticed any side effects or mood changes.  I took it CD1 to about 7DPO.

I was taking it to potentially move up my O date though, so that's why I would quit a few days after O was confirmed.  If you're taking it to help with LP, you might want to go a few days further.

There is some evidence about it not being good to taken when pg, so if you are not testing early, that is a good reason to stop it a few days before you anticipate AF.

  • Just as a caution, Vitex made me O later than ever! I did a ton of research and found that while it regulates cycles for many women, it has the opposite effect for some. My advice would be to start with a low dose and see how your body reacts to it. Good luck!

  • It is supposed to be similar to clomid but you can't take vitex if your taking clomid.

I started off taking 1 (400mg) vitex per day. the first cycle it didn't do much about moving up my O.  the second cycle i took 2/day and it did move up my O day to cd 14 and i got a BFP that cycle too!  i stopped taking vitex immediately after finding out i was pg. but that pregnancy did end in m/c.

I've been taking 1 pill a day for the last 2 cycles and it seems to have regulated my O date.

the dosage on the bottle says to take 3pills/day (400mg ea.) but i've never taken that many a day.  and it can take 2-3 cycles till you see it's effect.

i usually take it up till 9dpo.  but this cycle i'm going to stop it at O.

    GL!

  • I took it for my LP, so I don't know if my answer will help. I had a 7 day LP and took one a day from CD1 on. The first month I took it my LP was 9 days. The second month I took two a day from CD1 on.

  • I took it throughout my last cycle, up until O this cycle, and most of the first cycle I took it. It hasn't done diddly squat for me except screw with my CBEFM and OPKs. I never got a high reading, let alone a peak, yet my temps show ovulation.

But I'm a dissatisfied Vitex taker. So YMMV.

ETA: It didn't affect my mood at all. I've been in a sh!tty mood the whole way through, but I can't blame it on the Vitex. The one thing it DID do was make my prenatals all squishy when they shared space in my pill dispenser. Yuck.

  • I've been wondering about Vitex too!  Question:  Don't you have PCOS like I do?  Since Clomid gave me cysts, I'm thinking Vitex might, too.

  • Thanks ladies.  Super helpful information. I'm not taking any other fertility drugs right now, we're on our own, so I'm helping this will help me O.

BB, I hadn't thought about that.  Darn.  Clomid gave me cysts too.  I guess I'll try it this cycle and see what happens.
