Baby wearers, a ?

I was wearing DS on Sunday in my Moby.  It was tied a little looser than usual, so he was hanging down a little further than normal.  All of a sudden my left leg started feeling funny...i looked down because I thought that I had tripped up my leg on a table skirt or something, but nothing.  Then I realized that I felt really off balance and that I could barely lift up my leg.  I panicked and had DH take the baby because I was afraid I was going to fall or something. It took about half an hour for it to go back to normal.

Have you ever had something like that happen?  I assumed that maybe it was pushing on a nerve or something...but there are some neurological issues in my family, so when something like that happens, we all get nervous....

  • Ooh that's scary!  Glad DH was with you.  Nothing like that has every happened to me while wearing DD and she's up to 22# now and I wear her nearly every day.  It might have been just the position your DS was in and pressure on some nerve but that seems pretty extreme.  How heavy is your LO?  Any chance he's just heavy enough now that it's time to graduate from the Moby?

He's only around 15 pounds...is there a suggested limit to the moby?

Weight limit is 35lbs but I find that hard to think i would be able to walk around with something larger than thankgiving turkey on me!

There is a stated limit of 35# but many Mommas and babies find it uncomfortable around 15#.  The combined effect of use over time and an ever increasingly heavy baby makes that stretch jersey really stretch -  so unless you're vigilant about wrapping it tightly every time it will start to become increasingly uncomfortable.  Of course it's all relative - even an uncomfortable Moby is better than carrying your LO around in his carseat right?  But there are carriers, if you're interested in continuing to babywear, that would better distribute the weight as your DS continues to grow and allow you both to continue to enjoy babywearing.

  • the last time I carried DD in our baby k'tan, I noticed some odd hip pain on one side.    it was a day with a lot of walking with her...    i haven't noticed it since, but I also haven't done THAT much walking with the k'tan since.

DD is 15ish pounds now, too.  Aside from that one incident, I am loving my k'tan more than ever.

  • I get occasional numbness on the left side of my spine, but nothing like that. I think I just have a vertebra that needs adjusting.
