Had a fun but really scary day at HallZooWeen today. I got separated from Nora in a crowd. It was probably only a minute or so but it felt like eternity. We held hands while I pushed the stroller most of the day but in this one instance we didn't. I thought she was behind me while I pushed the stroller but there were so many people being pushy around the treat stations, she got disoriented and took off running to find me in the opposite direction. We were both a wreck. It made me realize how important it is to teach your children at a young age what to do in these scenarios. Stand still and shout and wait for Mommy to get you. Don't run to try to find me unless you see me. This scary experience taught me a valuble lesson so an even greater scare will be avoided. We've been talking about this all night and when I told Nora a bedtime story tonight she wanted to hear a story about "how Nora got lost". I'm still a wreck. I feel ashamed/embarrasesd to post this but hopefully it will remind someone to teach their kid what to do in this scenario.
Re: Had a big scare today at a crowded place
Oh my gosh, how scary!!! I agree HallZOOween was nutty today! Brandon got trampled on the playground, and that alone was scary. DH and I were talking on the way back today that the "HallZOOween" part that draws everyone to the zoo isn't anything that great where it almost makes more sense to go when there isn't that kind of draw. I don't know if that makes any sense or not.
Anyway, fwiw, my dad took myself and my 3 younger siblings to an amusement park when I was little. My baby brother was 5, and he got "lost" while in the park. When my dad realized my brother was missing, I have never seen him so startled in my life. Fortunately, he was fine, but I know it rattled him for quite a few days. You're not the only one to do this, and the reminder is an important one!

this! Glad things turned out okay.
Oh, Tosha, that is beyond scary. My heart was racing for you as I read what you wrote. All it takes is a split second and you can't find them. I'm so happy that your story had a happy outcome.
Thank you also for the reminder on talking with Allie about standing still. I have worked with her to make sure she knows my and DH's real names as well as her first and last name should she ever get lost, but never thought about the standing still and shouting part.
You're a FANTASTIC Mommy and your girls are so lucky to have you!
