My 32 weeker is now over 10 months old (actual) and about 8.5 adjusted and has yet to make any of the ma/da/ba sounds. He squeals a lot and makes an aaaahhhh sound and something that sounds like "hi", but that is it. Our infant development coordinator scheduled him for another hearing test (he passed the nicu test) and will refer him to someone if necessary.
We've been told that it isn't too much of a concern if a child speaks (real words) late, but that the lack of babbling is concerning.
So I am just curious...when did your preemie babble? Does anyone else have experience with this?
Thanks!
Re: when did your preemie start babbling?
Andrew made the "bababa" sound at 11 1/2 months adjusted.
He made the "gagigagigagi" sound (atypical, ha) probably at 13 months adjusted.
At about 15 months adjusted, he started to say "yayayayaya".
To date, 18 months adjusted, he does not say "dadadada" or "mamamama" or any other sounds other than above. He starts speech therapy in a week. His only words to date are "Gagi" meaning both Daddy and Doggie.
DD was babbling around the age of 5 months actual (3m adjusted) and was saying dada around 7m actual. It did sound like she was saying "hi" at first it was rather funny, but now she doesn't say that at all.
