Am I crazy? Water breaking fear...

Just wondering if anyone else freaks out every time fluid of any kind come out of your vj...  with DS it felt like it was just the usual discharge, but it was my anionic fluid and he was born 5 weeks early because of it.  It took about a hour before it went from feeling just like average discharge to being little gushes, so this time around I freak out every time.  Anyone else have discharge and think "What was that????  Was that my water breaking???"

Re: Am I crazy? Water breaking fear...

  • I am exactly the same way, I feel so silly, but I have no idea what I'm supposed to be expecting lol.

I was totally unconcerned about my water breaking with my first because it supposedly happens on its own so rarely.  Then my water *did* break at home.  This time I'm far more paranoid that it's going to break or that I'll have a slow leak and not realize it.
  • It's driving me crazy, and it doesn't help that I sweat too much when I sleep. I wake up with soaked undies, but it's just from being too hot.
  • I've had SO much discharge for weeks - I've constantly wondered if I was leaking fluid!  You have a good reason to worry, from your past experience.  I hope if my breaks, its a giant gush so I'm certain!

  • Yup, I have the same fear.  With DD, my water broke in one huge gush, but a friend of mine that had a baby in August, hers came out as a small leak throughout the day.  So everytime I feel something, I'm thinking, is that a small leak, lol.  I also have the fear of a huge gush of water again when I'm out running errands or something!

  • i did that exact same thing tonight. i felt something and stood there for a minute just kinda wondering if it was discharge or my water broke lol
Sometimes it's okay to follow. (Picture is a clicky)

Did your OB tell you it's more likely to happen this time around?  Mine said I'm 30% more likely to have my water break this time than other mothers are...  I hate figures like this, I am always analyzing that comment.  Did your first come early due to the water breaking?

  • I am SOOO glad I'm not the only one!  DH is getting mad at me, every time this happens I say...  UhhhOhhh, I hope that wasn't my water breaking!  lol

  • Yes, I am the same way! It is worse in the morning when discharge is more noticeable since I am now standing up/moving around and it has increased a bit from overnight. I always wonder if it is my water breaking!

  • Not quite the same, but I have been afraid I won't know if it breaks! I always hear stories where ladies think their water breaks and really it was just urine. To me I don't understand how you couldn't know the difference... but maybe that's because it han't happend to me
  • Yup. I definitely worry about it. I've got a waterproof pad on my bed and I'm probably gonna wear a GIANT pad during the entire last month whenever I have to leave the house! lol

I have this same problem.  Embarrassed

  • I didn't worry about this at all, thinking that I would KNOW when my waters had broken... until this past weekend!

On Friday I had soaked through my underwear in a largish gush, and then had small leaks of very watery fluid every few hours. It was never that much coming out, so I figured it must just be discharge.

Finally on Saturday after it happened twice again in the morning, I called my doula. She told me to take a home-test to see if it was amniotic fluid. I did, and the test was negative - all three times I took it. But I kept having these little gushes every few hours.

Then Sunday, I had another little gush just as I woke up - this time with some blood in it. I went to see my doctor, and told her everything that had happened on Friday and Saturday, and she took a look, took a sample and also did a test - which was also negative. The weird thing was, she couldn't believe it and retested. She said it really seemed like my water had been leaking out, even though her tests and mine were negative.

Finally, she did an internal, found me to be slightly dilated and effaced, and said it must just be my bloody show with really watery discharge. I then went for a fetal monitor. The baby was fine, and I was apparently having a good number of contractions (hence the bloody show).

Now I'm taking the day off of work, wondering if it WAS my water that had started leaking, waiting for the rest to just gush all over the place...
