3rd Trimester

Have you washed all their clothes?

I've seem the girl turned boy horror stories recently, and for some reason I'm having a hard time taking tags off of things. How long did you wait to wash babies clothes and blankets and such? With my DD I washed stuff as soon as I got them. Why am I being so paranoid? ;)

Re: Have you washed all their clothes?

  • I get a weekly u/s, so we know for sure she's a girl.  I have washed all her newborn and 0-3 months clothes, but nothing else.  We didn't get a ton, so I didn't mind taking the tags off and just doing it.  I didn't want to wait until we came home because I am sure I will be exhausted.

  • I've washed part of them.  I didn't wash the newborn stuff - I'm now being told 8lb 4oz and, even though I know that can be off, even if she's 7 1/2 lbs, newborn won't work for long.  I took it all back today and got 3 m but will only wash part of it in case she outgrows it too fast.  I will wash as I go with some of it.

  • I only washed a handful of onesies, DS's Little Brother onesie, and the swaddling blankets and other linens.  I'm not at all concerned with DS turning into a DD (we've seen his little penis at 19wks, 23 wks, and 33 wks on u/s).  Can your provider order another u/s and then you ask the tech to confirm then?

The reason I'm waiting to wash more clothes is because I have no idea what size he'll need (newborn or 0-3).

If you're really worried about your baby "changing sexes" on you... Just wash a few items (hospital take-home outfit) and a few onesies in "neutral" colors.  Leave the tags on the rest until after LO is born.  HTH. Smile

  • I washed everything last week.  We're team green anyway so all our clothes are gender neutral.

  • I've started washing the newborn and 0-3 stuff. I have weekly ultrasounds so I would be very shocked if I ended up having a boy.

  • I washed and put all the newborn and 0-3 clothes in the dresser.  The baby will most likely be around 7 lbs or so, and I do remember that my daughter was swimming in 0-3 at first so even if we only get a week or so in newborn I am ok with that.

Weird that you are reluctant...do you think the sex is not what they are telling you?

  • My insurance only covered one US and that was at 19 weeks. So I doubt another is in our future. I just can't bring myself to pay for a 4d. All but one outfit we got was no bigger than 3 months, so I guess it won't really matter anyway.

Luckily that's the only thing I can really count on here - the weather! We get about 4 weeks worth of cold. Good ol Florida! lol

  • You're having a boy right? The chances of a boy ending up being a girl is almost impossible. (unless you're going off a 14 wk U.S or something.) If there was a penis, there was a penis. penis's don't turn into vagina's.

Sometimes they don't see the penis, say its a girl, and there was a penis.

DS was 8lb 10oz and was in NB sizes for over a month.

OP - I will be washing most of it but it's mostly from consignment sales, hand-me-downs, and DS's old gender neutral stuff. I haven't taken the tags off of anything new yet so that will get washed once she's here.

  • My friend's baby "boy" ended up missing a very important part, so yes, "boys" can end up being girls.  They had told everyone they were having a boy and ended up scrambling after their daughter's birth to try to return what boy items they could (not to mention picking a girl name).   I'd say wash some essentials until you know for sure.   A funny aside: when I told this friend I was having a boy, he laughed and said, "Well, you never know..."   Actually, we had genetic testing done, so yes, we DO know!  Smile
