Cloth Diapering

If you use pockets at night....

and your LO is a soaker/ STTN... What are you using for a pocket CD and what are you using for inserts?

LO sleeps about 12 hours and we were using an AFFF with a Knickernappies stay-dry hemp doubler inside a BG. Last night LO peed through it. :(

I have been looking at overnight fitteds and just ordered 2 PP Cadillacs to try out but they won't be here for a month. I thought this combo would hold us longer. :(

Re: If you use pockets at night....

  • AFFF with a MF insert (BG). I like having MF in there because it absorbs quicker. If you use MF,. make sure the MF is closer to the baby than the hemp (but still in the pocket, obviously).

We use BG 3.0s at night.

  • I use a FB OS with both the MF inserts it comes with plus a hemp, it holds up well.

  • We do hemp with microfiber. Did the hemp just not wick the pee away fast enough and it leaked? Or have you thought about wool? I want to try a wool soaker for night time, but I'm afraid it will only add to my addiction! Ha!

I used to do hemp & MF but I hate MF. The hemp absorbed everything it could - the dipe was soaked and super heavy.

I just bought a pair of SBish longies. I haven't used them at night yet. I think I've started a whole new level of addiction to CDs. lol

  • When we use pockets, we use either BG 3.0s or Blueberry OS diapers stuffed with an AFFF and either a medium Super-Do or a BB hemp/mf combo.  DD1 leaks out of this combination about once a week.  Last night I added a large stay-dry GMD hemp doubler on top of the inside of the pocket and that worked pretty well, but she also hadn't had much to drink in the evening.

Yeah, it is.  I still can't get over how much this kid pees at night!

  • DS isn't too bad. A bamboo + hemp insert holds him, no problem, even when he was still nursing once a night. I try to avoid nursing him right before bed, so he gets most of his pee out before his overnight diaper goes on. Now that he sleeps through without nursing again, his diaper is still pretty dry in the morning.

DD was a super heavy wetter and can still soak a diaper pretty well. Fitteds with wool covers worked well for her for a long time, but now she refuses to wear fitteds, and asks for a "real diaper" (aka a pocket). Sigh.

Anyway, I use a Greenhorn Super Sleepytime insert in her pocket. It's usually soaked in the morning and so the diaper sometimes leaks a bit, so I make sure to put a pair of fleece shorties or longies (depending on the temperature, and her mood) over it. The fleece catches whatever leaks out of her diaper.

ETA: Oh, and on a few occasions when all the Super Sleepytimes have been in the wash, I've used two bamboo inserts + a hemp insert, and that seems to work just about as well.
