What's traditionally on your Thxgiving table?

This is my first year taking over the Thanksgiving feast.  DH is saying turkey, stuffing/dressing, salad, greenbean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy... but, what else?

Oh, and DH's uncle is vegetarian.  I would like to offer one more thing that is vegetarian-friendly, but is pretty darn acceptable to all the carnivores, too.

  • same as you have listed, but we also have sweet potatoes, roasted squash, rolls, and a tray with celery w/spreadable cheese in it and all different kinds of olives and pickles.
  • Loading the player...
  • We always have a veggie tray, a relish tray (pickles and olives), cranberry sauce, tossed salad, corn and coleslaw along with everything else you listed.

T-giving dinner means 30+ people for us.

This is a test. This is only a test.

Oh yeah, and candied yams and Hawaiian rolls.

I feel like I'm still forgetting something...

  • + sweet potato souffl? with marshmallows and cranberry orange sauce, pillsbury croissants, stuffing (did you say that?), ummmmm.....asparagus and hollandaise. I think that's it for dinner. Pumpkin pie & cookies & coffee & about eleventy billion different creamers for dessert.

  • Everything you said plus rolls, sweet potato casserole, roasted butternut squash. We usually have some sort of soup/salad course before hand, too.

Last year I made wild mushroom risotto, and I've made that recipe ever since. It was sooooo yummy. And a good vegetarian dish, too.

  • We have all the basics, but we also have potato dumplings and lefse due to our Norwegian heritage.

My mom also HAS to have one of those cans of cranberry goo on the table. It's super weird because she just slides it out of the can and onto a plate.  So it's molded in the shape of the tin can.  No one ever eats it, but she won't quit buying it because "It's a Thanksgiving thing!"

Edit to add:  My mom also makes "green salad" which is basically green jello, cabbage and pineapple in a mold.  The texture is pretty gross.

Oh I love love love honey baked ham. We generally have 2 dinners and it usually works out that one has turkey and one has ham. It's nice not to get turkey-ed out.

  • Traditionally my family has the same thing as you're having but with steamed veggies instead of greenbean casserole. We also have rolls, pies, and yams. My brother and I both cycle between being vegetarian and carnivores. For vegetarian years we've had quiche, festive soup (such as squash or pumpkin), roasted butternut squash, chili or stew, stuffed acorn squash, and mushroom pies. We usually make all or half of the stuffing vegetarian (depending on who is in attendance).

It's really nice of you to make something else for your DH's uncle. You can definitely find a whole meal at the Thanksgiving table but there's usually no main course. So it's kind of like snacking. It can leave something to be desired.

  • At both the Thanksgiving dinners I went too, there was turkey, chicken, lamb chops, sweet potatoes, fried rice, carrots, broccoli, asparagus, scalloped potatoes, cranberry, gravy, salad, stuffing, and lots of dessert.

  • Turkey, squash, mashed potato, gravy, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, rolls, stuffing.

Yumm. Now I'm excited for Thanksgiving!

  • imageStarAnnice:

I usually get the dinner in a box from the grocery store and add a couple of things to it.  So, Turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing (sometimes I mix chorizo in it), lemon broccoli, sweet potato casserole, dinner rolls.

Mmmm....now I'm a little sad that we're not going to be having Thanksgiving dinner this year!

    Why no Thanksgiving?

Seriously, we make everything homemade and have enough food to feed an army. You guys are more than welcome!
