Nighttime dryness and daytime dryness are two totally different things- it's more common for a kid to be unable to hold it at night past the age of 4 than it is for them to be dry all night. It's a physiological thing, so I don't see the need to push it.
Based on that, I couldn't care less if DD wears diapers at night. She's fully dry during the day but still wears (and needs) a diaper at night. She's had no issues with confusion during the day.
