3rd Trimester

Sign Language Fail

My mom and I were watching a family friend's son. He is three and has Down's syndrome, and since his speech is delayed, everyone uses sign language with him. My mom and him are playing, and she will sign something to him, he will respond, and then she will push the bucket of blocks to him, encouraging him to play. She tries this like ten times, and he keeps getting more and more frustrated.

I look over at what she is saying, so I'm like "Mom, why are you doing that? You're being mean!"  and she says, frantically, "I asked him if he wanted to play with blocks, and he said yes, but something's wrong." So I clear things up for her.

"Mom, you have asked him repeatedly if he wanted some noodles, and you keep giving him blocks instead."

She was so embarrassed.
