Hi Ladies,
I haven't been on much. It's beencrazy here. But I'm now having some Bfing issues and just need somemoral support.
Things were gong well around 4.5 weeks. I felt like some sense of order was returning to our lives. ThenMaya got a diaper rash that wouldn't go away and I started gettingshooting pains in my left breast. I googled and realized it wasthrush. So we got put on Nystatin and Diflucan. It was a realordeal just to get both doctors to treat us and to get the scriptsfilled, but I won't get into that. For the first time I felt totallydisgusted with our healthcare system (doctors, pharmicists andinsurance company).
Anyway, we treated the thursh and itwas a PITA. Tons of extra laundry and boiling pacis, pump parts, etc. Plus giving her medicine and taking my medicine just adds to analready busy day. The medicine she was taking caused the yeast tobreak down and produced a gas. So she wound up on simethicone dropstoo which just added more work.
Last Wednesday morning I woke up to thesame breast THROBBING in pain. I went to my OB and they confirmedMastitis. By the time I got home I had a fever and flu-likesymptoms. I felt so crappy on Wed and Thu. Yesterday I startedfeeling better. The infection seems to be on the way out and now I'mworking on heat/massage to get the blocked ducts clear.
Unfortunately the thrush that wasalmost gone seems to be coming back. Her tongue was nearlywhite-free but now is starting to be white again and today is herlast day of meds. I finished yesterday. I can call on Monday forrefills on our perscriptions, but I was just hoping to be done withit!
To top it off, the last few days shehas been really rough on my breasts. She starts nicely and then atthe end maintains suction, but yanks the nipple around as she pullsback, then buries her face in my boob and then shakes her head backand forth. I try and unlatch her, but she has such a good grip, Ican't pull her off and have a hard time even sticking my finger inher mouth to break the seal. Now I have a really sore nipple and ithas been turning white after she unlatches. It hurts when I'm notnursing her, but I haven't wanted ot use Lanolin as it helps theyeast to grow.
This morning I lost it and sartedcrying. I feel bad but I was questioning whether it was a mistake tohave her. Don't get me wrong, it was just a ?in the heat of themoment? thought. I love her. She is the most adorable thing. Butit's just so frustrating. I'm working so hard and I didn't thinkBreast Feeding would be so tough! I thought by 7 weeks, there wouldbe much more order. And I think if I can get BF fixed, it will getbetter. She wants to sleep longer stretches at night now. Istupidly thought I'd be raking our leaves during her naps now! Hah! I'm lucky if I can shower, get deodorant on and keep the houseanything less than gross and bake a meal I froze before she was born.
If you read all this, thank you. Ifyou have any words of wisdom, I'd love to hear them. I keepthreatening her with formula if she doesn't start treating my boobsnicely!
Re: BFing/Postpartum Vent - Long (Thrush, Mastitis and Sore Nipples mentioned)
I went through thrush and mastitis with my first...and it was horrible.
I'm so sorry you're dealing with all of that, but hope everything resolves very very soon!
Just wanted to say I am so sorry you are having a tough time. As "poratble and easy" BF van be it is also one of the most difficult things I have ever done. I EBF and love it but it is challenging @ times.
Def get and APNO- (all purpose nipple cream) and stay far away from the lanolin. Also- vinegar rinses really help to- page me if you want more info.
Hang in there mamma- you are doing great!
