This is not 100% true, in order for tricare (triwest) to cover the cost of a pump, that baby must be premature and be medical warrented. I went through this with ds2 and was denied even with a script because ds2 was not premature.

damn I was triwest when ds was born, and was a preemie.
I had no idea the insurance would have covered a purchased one...I had to rent mine through wic.

Even though my son was only 3 weeks early, and was barely under 6lbs (5lb 15oz) our Lactation Consultant deemed me worthy of a free pump - seeing as I am active duty as well.
It is also worth noting that many hospitals find it cheaper to give them away rather than rent them out, as the replacement parts/sanatizing process is more expensive than purchasing new units.
I am also TriWest and the colored the pump with a script after DD was born in July. She was not premature. I don't know if it was something special or not. The nurses at my hospital actually were the ones that told me about it and they had been told by the Tricare rep on base.
Dang it I wish I would've known this 6 months ago! I had to quit bf because of complications and could have definitely continued had I known this information! THank you!!!
Re: Tri care covering Breast Pump?
I have TriWest and they cover them if you have a script.

Some bases/posts it is a case-by-case basis.
