Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do you give Tylenol/Mortrin for teething?

DS just started teething ( a week ago) and my DH is very quick to suggest I give him something for the pain. I've been rocking him back to sleep 2-3 times a night. I did give him tylenol once, and then wished I hadn't 'cause he immedietly fell asleep, so I knew he didn't need the meds! I'm assuming it'll be worse when the molars come in, so I'll give him something then, but how often, if at all,  do you give pain meds to your teething baby?

(My pedi is OK with giving Mortrin for teething)

Re: Do you give Tylenol/Mortrin for teething?

  • if hes real pissy during the day i ll give some tylenol and i give motrin before bed (since it lasts longer) when hes working on a tooth.  i remember my wisdom teeth coming in and can only imagine how much his teeth are bothering him!  i hate giving him much but i cant stand the thought of letting him suffer through when i can do something to help him.

  • pharmacist told me Motrin's better than Tylenol for teething.  We use Hyland's teething tablets.  And sometimes Motrin and Hylands simultaneously.
  • DH and I have been is disagreements over this. He doesn't think I should give it but I do.

I give Tylenol at MOST once a day/night when I KNOW he's teething and in pain. I figure if I was in pain than I'd take it.

Another thing is, maybe he fell asleep because it helped with the pain?

  • I have never had to give her pain meds for teething, Hylands Teething Tablets work GREAT for us. I would give them a try.
  • Sometimes the Hylands work.  But if they don't, I absolutely give Motrin.  There is no reason to let her suffer.
  • It won't hurt them to give it on occasion, just think how we feel when we are in pain.  Just be careful and don't overdo it!  Trust your own judgment. Teething is tough!  Good luck!
